Church officials at the city park meeting closed their annual session and, in a unanimous vote, urged the annual conference in Lincoln September 11 to 17 to return Rev. and Mrs. Drew to the Diller charge for the coming year. The Drews have served one year and made many friends beyond the Methodist flock.
Cattle sales decline as cooler weather and showers dampen demand. Only 726 of 1000 heads were bought at Fairbury last week, casting doubt on filling this week’s 500 head quotas for Wednesday and Saturday. Officials may issue permits up to 100 head for five listing points including Fairbury Daykin Plymouth Diller and Reynolds for future buying dates.
The Diller Christian Endeavor Society holds its first union meeting of the season at 8 p.m. in the Methodist church. Miss Doris Beckwith new C B society president will preside and an orchestra led by Mrs. Wilbur Schindler will provide music. Rev Mr Drew will speak on The Irresistible Voice. Seats reserved for college attendees. all are invited.
On next Wednesday evening Lincoln teams meet under bright lights at Diller. The Urban League Colored Girls of Lincoln play an all star Big Five Soft Ball League team. Harbine and Diller Men open the program. Proceeds benefit the Diller Sure Ball association with 10 cents admission.
Harry Patton, knocked down on Lincoln streets last week, was moved to his home where he struggles with leg weakness. He suffered past leg injuries from a childhood tumb ling accident that left him with ongoing trouble. He hopes to recover to his prior condition after the recent incident.
Announcement records the engagement of Prince George of England to Princess Marina of Greece. The wedding is planned for November or December. George is 32 and the fourth son of King George VI, with the Prince of Wales still unmarried.
A late Saturday park softball game pitted the Darkies against St Pauls from a church south of town. Lutherans initially led, but Keith Hays and a Methodist class showed endurance, and the Darkies rallied to win 19 to 18, leaving some questioning supremacy.
A Nebraskan gunner named Cal Waggoner of Diller receives a puzzling letter dated Tuesday. It praises his 1934 record as a gunner and is signed by a Cal Waggoner. The letterhead uses Milliken National Bank stationary from Decatur Illinois, with a bank auditor named Cal Beseea attached to the document.

Jefferson County purchases 17 acre tract southeast of Fairbury for a government housing project. Surveying begins to lay out 10 tracts for living units with irrigation via pumping plant. The town of Funk in Phelps county with 150 residents will have no village taxes this year due to income from a beer emporium tobacco shops and a gasoline pipeline company. A one mill levy of $200 remains in the treasury and poll taxes total $600. the mayor and village board serve without pay and conduct affairs from private offices.
Mildred Mayborn piano students present their annual recital open to the public. The program is Friday evening September 7 at eight o'clock at the Congregational church. Attendees may view a hand-made orchestra instrument exhibited by a Music Appreciation Club member.
Diller girls defeated Steele City 33 to 3 with Mildred Shaneck effective on the mound. Steele City boys beat Diller 12 to 7. Odell girls edged Ellis 25 to 24 in two extra innings, Odell’s first series defeat. Odell boys beat Ellis 17 to 8 as Hubka pitching sparked protest. Ply mouth girls beat Diller 15 to 6 after the league games. Plymouth visited Diller amid heavy attendance and three games in one evening.
Dispatches report that corn hog benefits total two million dollars daily to cooperating farmers. About fifty million dollars have been paid so far, just over a third of the 133 million expected in the first installment. Nearly 500,000 checks issued. Nebraska has received over 3.25 million dollars, Jefferson county 23390 last week with northern precincts paid first. another 24000 check batch completed payments in the north tier.
About 100 residents attended a county relief meeting at the Mary-Etta hotel in Fairbury to review relief payments. Officials argued against using script outside Fairbury, urged cash for recipients there, and stressed relief funds must not pay old debts.
Miss Eva B. Shuman former Jefferson county s schools superintendent and four years with the state university as an instructor will teach next year at Holdrege high school She will head the normal training department beginning Monday per Fairbury Journal.
