John Folkers Sr is ill this week. Mrs Roy Robb visited last week at Mr and Mrs Beckwiths home. The notice notes hay fever as a condition and lists the Nebraska State Fair dates September second to seventh with the usual attractions.
Mr Nies living in the north part of town fell Monday evening and sustained a severe head cut and bruises. Wounds were promptly dressed and he is on the mend.
Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Patton and their baby visited relatives, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Patton, in Diller last Sunday. Hubert Patton works for Store Craft Co. in Beatrice.
A band concert is planned at the park Saturday night. F. D. Muldoon of Marysville Kansas will direct the band while Mr Wood is on vacation with Mr Maldoon leading his duties in his absence.
Mr and Mrs Lloyd Callander visited his parents Mr and Mrs M Callander to attend a local picnic before leaving Saturday for Denver Their son is the manager of Wall Green drug stores in Denver.
Mrs Mary Strockey, staying with a niece at Blue Springs during illness, returned to her Diller home Wednesday evening. She plans to stay a few weeks, then spend the winter in Blue Springs.
Suit coats were in order Monday and Tuesday as temperatures hovered around 60 degrees. This marked a sharp relief from the 110 to 115 degree heat wave just days earlier, with last Saturday noted as scorching hot and concerns rising about fuel for the coming winter.

In Fairbury eight of ten Republican hopefuls for county treasurer were from the city, with Catlin leading at 650 votes. George Arnold had 447 and Lewis E. Huss 150. Arnold tallied 48 votes in Fairbury and Woods 13. Democrat contenders fared better out of Fairbury with Kroll at 547 and Ruhnke at 531. Sheriff Ackman, the Republican incumbent, carried every precinct countywide about 6 to 1, 2400 to 417.
Vandalia Ohio August 21 Cal Waggoner of Diller Nebraska was named high average gunner for 1934 by the American Trapshooting Association. He fired over a thousand registered targets this year and posted an average of 98.99 percent. Marie Kautzky Grant of Fort Dodge Iowa led women with a 96 percent all time record over 650 days.
Mrs Ethel May Sanmann formerly Camp Fire Girls director in Lincoln has become supervisor of women s work relief projects under Nebraska FERA. She takes over duties from Miss Lulu Wolford who resigned to run for state superintendent. Sanmann plans sewing and adult education projects for needy women with the latter nutritional work moved to the state office.
Saturday night under lights a local team will play a team described as Black people with a band concert preceding the game. The article invites spectators to see the matchup and notes uncertainty about the opposing team’s exact identity.
The last massed band concert of the Inglesbe Wood organization was held in Hanover last evening. Several from Diller attended, and Diller participated in all six events. The first concert occurred at Beattie Kansas, then Seadae at Axtell, Odell, the Diller picnic, Sabetha, and finally Hanover.

Mr and Mrs L M Hurst drove to Lincoln last Sunday to take their uncle Ben Pearce to Elmer Pearce who would take him to Platte Mouth. Uncle Ben is feeble nearly blind but cheerful and likes his home at the Masonic home.
Mrs. Nellie Williamson widow of J H Williamson longtime resident southeast of Diller died Sunday at her son John Williamson's home in Trice. She was 75 years old.
Diller Public Schools plan to open September 3 6 1930 with seven teachers and a heavier high school load. Staff includes Principal Coach Elmer Mahl Normal Training Miss Mildred Mares English and Music Joyce Grubb Supt and Science and Miss Flossie Raymond grades 1 2 3 Miss Lucille Hanson grades 4 5 6 and Mr Russel McCreight grades 7 and 8. The school offers Normal training and college preparatory courses plus typing for juniors and seniors. Athletic prospects look strong and the community is urged to send students to school for future employment prospects.
Harry Patton sustained a brain concussion scalp wound and cuts when struck by a fast car near 13th and S streets in Lincoln. He was taken to Lincoln General Hospital and remained a day or two. Mrs Patton and children were moving to Lincoln for school. Patton plans to stay in Harbine and continue carpenter work if available.
A Beatrice based movement urges the federal government to purchase the Daniel Freeman homestead west of Beatrice to establish a Homestead National Park. The filing marks a pioneering effort as millions of homesteads have since been claimed in the United States.
Jefferson county corn hog treasurer received 267 government checks totaling 22000 dollars from the last Monday for distribution to farmers. The payments cover the northwest corner and southern tier of precincts and are expected to continue rapidly until completion.
In a Wednesday doubleheader at Lapeonenis 1 H girls beat Diller 13 to 12 and Odell boys defeated Diller 10 to 8. A large crowd attended the event.
Lucious Pearce of Superior Nebraska was visiting among friends here last Sunday forenoon. The report notes his presence and social activity during the weekend.

Mill operations near Seward and Manhattan slowed as water scarcity cut power from dyanmo and only turned wheels. Experts note 27 dams between Seward and Manhattan and residents state flow has dropped to about a quarter of normal with Indian creeks drying up.
The Rev R H Askew of Goldsboro NC, an evangelist for Mrs McPhersons 4 Square church, admits the kidnapping story last week was a fake. He fled for a vacation and sent his own ransom notes demanding 25000 for his life and another to Mrs McPherson for 25000, threatening to blow up Angelus Temple. He is now jailed.
Edward E. Good thanks voters in every county for their support in the primary. He says the vote reflects endorsement of his public service and a mandate to continue conscientious work into the November election.
Mrs. W H Carpenter of Harbine Nebraska died at her home August 20 1934 aged 63 years 5 months 28 days. Funeral service was held August 22 at Hope Reform Lutheran church Harbine with Rev Kohler officiating. burial at Harbine cemetery. She leaves husband three sons Russell Hemingford Nebraska Cather Valentine Nebraska Eldred Diller Nebraska two daughters in law four grandchildren two sisters and many relatives.
