Jefferson county reports only 181 head sold last Saturday from a 500 head quota. Weekly listings show 300 head planned for Tuesday and Friday. County official Andreas notifies committeemen that the local cattle buying program will be discontinued until further notice. farmers urged to list stock for sale in Fairbury on Friday September 7.
Attendance figures from the Nebraska State Fair show limited participation. Sunday drew 3,000, Labor Day lagged by about 100,000 from peak, with 25,000 noted. Tuesday and Wednesday posted under 10,000 and 12,000 respectively.
The Woman's Club holds its first meeting after summer break on Wednesday September 1 at 2 30. Hostess is Mrs Malaoder with Mrs Joe Nippert as assistant. Roll call subject is Current Events. After a parliamentary drill by Mrs Callander, the regular business session will follow.
Mr and Mrs Bert Caldwell and their two sons Charles Elza and Carol Dean of Belleville Illinois visit the home of Caldwell's brother Lawrence in Jansen. Also visiting with his sister Mrs Henry Peters is Mr Fred Wesemann of Collinsville Illinois.
Mr and Mrs Eldred Carpenter relocate from their recent residence west of town to the home of his father Mrs Wm Carpenter four miles northwest of town. The younger Mr Carpenter will manage the home following the mother's death.

In windy, dust filled weather the Urban League Black Girls ball club of Lincoln faced an All-Stars team from the Big Five Softball League at Diller. Miss Mildred Shaneck pitched effectively for the Black Girls as the All Stars won 15 to 1. Later Harbine beat Diller 6 to 5 in the men's game.
The Wymore resident reports an infestation of pests spreading across the city and nearby areas. The Wymore school and local residents urge coordinated action to eradicate the weeds that form five-pointed bars and puncture tires and soles. They blame gravel shipments for starting the problem and note growth along railroad tracks and in backyards.
The National Recovery Administration approved a schedule for simplifying and standardizing wood cased lead pencils. Prepared by the industry with the Bureau of Standards and recommended by the Commerce Department, it classifies pencils, regulates manufacture, fixes standard packing and determines lengths and diameters for different classes.
