A wagon tire lost from the gear used under the Old Time Band Wagon picnic day disappeared between John Pulec blacksmith shop and Wm Behrends residence. Behrends says the gear was hitched to a Ford last Friday and taken home. Despite searches, the tire remains missing and authorities are asked to notify Behrends or the Record Office if found.
The O A Cooper Milling Company of Humboldt Nebraska buys the Crittenden Company east elevator and starts extensive remodeling to handle high grade grain for milling. The engine room is removed from the south side and a storehouse for flour and feed will be erected. Carpenters began work Wednesday. The Cooper Company also purchased the Crittenden elevator at Odell.
The annual Farmers Union Picnic will be held at Fairbury City Park next Tuesday starting at 10 a.m. A 35 piece Farmers Union Band of Louisville will give a concert and a ball game between Farmers Union teams closes the day at 3 30. Speeches contests and basket dinner round out the program.
Roy Schultis of forty miles northwest of Diiler returned from Austin Minnesota where he graduated from the Austin Auctioneer College. He is now a qualified auctioneer ready to contract sales and his advertisement will appear in these columns after this week.
The American Legion state convention starts at Beatrice Sunder evening with the Pageant of Peace and runs to Wednesday evening. Activities include a Monday whoopee, a Tuesday parade, and a Wednesday Bugle and Drum Corps contest.
Mr Wood announces no band activities until September 9 as the group rests. He will vacation during this period and move his family from Marysville to Sabetha Kansas where he directs both school and municipal band programs.
Claus Saathoff a breakman on the Burlington train impressed in last week pageant. He was a principal figure in the whisker club and earned a notable local mention for his performance.
Several showers during the week and a one inch rain on Wednesday night cooled the atmosphere and raised spirits though prospects for corn have been destroyed.
A fire from a line stove caused considerable interior damage at Pete Carr's home, four miles southeast of Diller on the Wm. Haover farm. The kitchen was badly burned and ruined.

Haiti for a month long cruise visiting the Virgin Islands Antigua Guadeloupe Dominican Republic Martinique Barbados Trinidad Venezuela Professors Chew plans to make colored movies for lecture use.
Beatrice couple Mr and Mrs Frank Beran attended the Diller picnic on Tuesday. Chicago visitors Mr and Mrs W E McCowen, en route to Denver, stayed with Adolph Beran. Ernest Schmidt and two children from Wahoo spent Sunday with the Henrichs, where Marilyn Schmidt was christened in a family gathering of uncles aunts and cousins.
The Diller Boys beat Steele City 30 to 4 after traveling last Thursday. At Ellis on Friday the Diller boys won 9 to 4 and the men 8 to 7. Saturday night local grounds hosted town versus country teams while Wednesday in Wymore the girls won 8 to 16 and the Diller men also played.
Mr and Mrs W S Slocum of lace celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary in a quiet soiree at the home of their daughter and son in law Frank R Robinson near Beatrice. They were surprised with a postcard shower and letters of congratulations from friends and neighbors and thank all who helped make the day pleasant.
Odell Oracle and Harry Beckwith killed a large Scat snake on a tool bench in a father’s shop on Main Street Friday. Eyewitnesses confirm the incident and note the unusual beer and snake tales in the village surroundings.
