Beatrice hosted a large American Legion convention with 443 auxiliary delegates. A Sunday Pageant of Peace at Athletic Park drew vast crowds, featuring tableaux, fireworks, and war scenes. An electric magnet rig mounted on a large truck works on No. 3 S road gathering scraps left or dragged onto the highway. Over 27 miles from Vesta to Beatrice the driver collected 210 pounds of nails, the most ever. The magnet runs off a generator in the truck and is switched at each mile to avoid overload.
