American Legion Convention Opens With Air Circus and Parades
The American Legion and Ladies Auxiliary plan a three day Lincoln convention August 27 to 29 with two parades and drum corps contests. A ten act air circus and parachute jumpers will open the event along with free theatres barbecue golf swimming and a radio show. Special prices are offered for fair visitors on Aug 26 and 28. Entertainment includes dancing at Antelope Park and free rides at Capital Beach with a Smile Age Book given to all registrants.

Miss Elizabeth Green returned from Norfolk to join a Jefferson county picnic on the battleship Tuscaloosa. Mrs Earl McKensie and her Fairbury guest visited Donald McKensie while Elizabeth’s cousin Keith Johnson and LeRoy Garrett also joined the voyage. Forty-Third Picnic Draws Big Crowds Despite Rain
The 434th annual picnic drew large crowds over two days in Diller with a grand parade, numerous acts, and a strong evening turnout though rain damaged floats and cancelled the second day’s finale. The Sheeley Family, Hopkins Sisters and Phyllis Jean Brinson headlined free acts, while local talent filled the afternoon programs.

Diller’s old fashioned parade entry with a mule team and covered wagon ran away on Thursday afternoon. The mules frightened near Clauson’s pump shop, veered west and north, but no injuries occurred. A wagon bumper struck several cars, loosening the bumper with no damage beyond scare.

Mrs Witty Recovers After Garden Fall
Mrs. Witty suffered a back injury from a six foot fall while pulling a heavy weed in Ray Greens yard last week. She remained bed bound for several days and now can rise parts of the time. She warns older residents to avoid strenuous weed pulling to prevent similar accidents.

Allen Party Heads West for Holiday Trip With Family

4-H Exhibit and Horse Show Planned at County Fair
County Agent Frank Flynn announces the Fairbury C of C will sponsor a 4-H Exhibit and Horse Show at the county fair grounds on September 21 and 22 with cash prizes for all 4-H exhibits. The horse show, to be held in front of the grandstand, will feature show horses and jumpers from George Brandies Omaha Mrs. D. Eiche and Boomer Bros. Lincoln, plus several local classes.
