A Tuesday afternoon dust storm rolled in from the northwest around 4 30 PM causing fear and forcing residents to seek shelter in caves or culverts. Wind damaged a few trees and dust infiltrated homes as the storm, gathering near Hebron, blew through the area.
The Odell picnic drew a big crowd on Tuesday with about two hundred musicians in attendance. The Diller band contributed around 50 players and led the massed band concert, the largest group from any one town.
Child Hart Francis Marie Hinsley, six, of Lincoln Nebraska, suffered a deep cut above the left eye requiring surgery after being thrown against a car by a rough spot four miles west of Diller. The road west from the Diller cemetery is too rough for fast driving.

The union services at the city park last Sunday evening drew a large crowd. Dr G Keller Rubrecht of Grace Lutheran Lincoln delivered an inspiring message on mankind's universal desire for worship. Jeannette Baker from Lincoln sang as soloist. Rev Merle Fish of Los Angeles will speak next Sunday. Merle is a former Diller boy and expected to draw a good hearing.
Local laborers accuse Gage county men of getting jobs on Third street paving while Jefferson county workers fill county CWA roles. National Reemployment Service helper Robert Bevington confirms three Gage men on the paving project and nine Jefferson county workers on county CWA labor. Five bricklayers are paid 120 dollars an hour and four others sixty cents an hour. The Fairbury Journal notes rising jealousy among relief workers.
Wymore ball club took the long end of a 9 to 6 win at Diller last Sunday. Diller then traveled to Odell Tuesday for a game that Odell won 7 to 5.
Officials note items for publication should be submitted to the Record office early next week. The annual picnic coincides with busy days on Wednesday and Thursday, possibly forcing the next issue to publish Friday instead of Thursday.
The ladies of St Pauls Lutheran church host an ice cream social in the Clausen building on Saturday evening August 11th. Everyone is invited.

Witness LaForest Fielder brother of the bride. They reside in Ellis and plan garage business. This is a double family union with longstanding ties.
Last Wednesday evening the Glark cousins met at Mr and Mrs Scott A Miller's home for a family reunion. Five and a half gallons of homemade ice cream were consumed during the gathering. Press dispatches report the NRA duties lifted from 15 trades in towns of 2500 or fewer. Affected sectors include barber shops, motor vehicle storage, bowling and billiards, cleaning and dyeing, laundries, shoe rebuilding, hotels, baking retail, retail food and groceries, jewelry, tobacco, retail trade, and restaurants.

Gage county schedules its annual Free Fair for September 25 to 28 with expectations of an unusually large crowd judging by picnic attendance.

He also mentions the fourth annual DeBolt Stampede picnic with steer riding races and a late evening historical pageant.
The Jefferson county drouth relief association authorized purchases of 300 head of cattle on Wednesday August 8. Individuals from Meridian Eureka Washington and other precincts may list cattle at the Fairbury office with permits issued for 100 head per list. A second 100 head listing is allowed on Saturday August 11. All cattle will be bought at Rock Island stock yards in Fairbury. No permits issued until the day after the previous sale. Cattle not properly listed will not be accepted.
High temperatures allowed eggs to hatch outdoors. John Rahman candled eggs at the Farmer's store on Saturday. A chick hatched in a shoe box Monday when Herman Stahl opened the store. Pearl Thompson raised the chick with other young birds.
Hanover boosters reached Diller at 30 p m with 25 autos and a bucking Ford loaded with noise makers and a 25 piece brass band led by Shorty Triska. Whiskers is among the attractions drawing Diller residents to attend the event.
