Social notices mention visits and trips by families including Mr and Mrs A H Colman and Mr M J Senior plus Fanders and Reneida. A deputy food commissioner ruling urges farmers to own cream cans.

A Card of Thanks expresses gratitude for support during a family bereavement and funeral for Anna Hicken. The Diller Lyceum club booked eight performances for next winter, seven from Midland Lyceum Bureau and one from another bureau. Mrs Calia Willard spoke at the Christian church, appointed officers to form a missionary auxiliary, and urged all interested to meet May 7 at 3 pm at Mrs P B Millers.
The notice reports Blanche Hudson, daughter of Geo. Hudson, suffering pneumonia. It also mentions Miss J. O. Ballard offering a plaque or race with every ten dollar purchase, and notes Mr. and Mrs. Gulla Wright leaving for the Big Horn Basin. O. E. Rigdon drove to Fairfield Sunday to visit his wife and baby.
Save Money on Shoes half price on the bargain counter for men women and children. The note mentions a picnic season with fleas mosquitoes chiggers ants and gnats and suggests a day out remains fun. Billy Myers sold two of four lots to Rev. Schaetiel for 300 dollars. Shadie plans a residence in Diller and to move there.
The box claims to read the formula and urges asking a doctor for a better option. It notes pain in various areas and mentions Dr Shoop and Neely's Pharmacy as sellers. The ad promises 20 tablets for 25 cents.
Mrs Ora Arthur returned from Diller after attending the funeral of the late Miss Anna Higgins. She also inspected the new monument over the grave of her sister the late Mrs John Langworthy Beatrice Express 26th.
C. E. Waggoner and his brother-in-law Heagy Hemminger, resident six miles south of Beatrice, went to Omaha Saturday for Hemminger’s appendectomy performed Monday morning. A Monday evening phone message reported the operation was successful and Hemminger is recovering well.
The newspaper invites non-subscribers to join by sending in their names via telephone letter or in person at the Diller office. Subscriptions cost three cents a week or 1.50 per year as the paper seeks to grow its audience.
The Board of Education met to elect teachers for the next year and after reviewing many applications decided to retain the current corps with one exception. Miss Katherine Roche plans to become a trained nurse and will be replaced later.
The Village Board of Trustees plans an election to approve bonds for a water works system in Diller per the spring election. A water works representative briefed the board on costs and plant types, with publicity promised through the Recop. Local notices and further developments will follow as residents are urged to study the proposal. May-day cloak sale, cattle pasture requests, a birth near Diller, and a barn fire on the Mesaemith farm are also noted in brief items.
A 9c sale at the Racket May 1st. Nida returned Wednesday from a trip to Pawnee City. Mrs. Dr. Bauquess visited her sister Mrs. Rose Shoebotham near Fairbury. For Sale a good Shorthorn bull calf large enough for service. Joan H. Kuper and Amos family of Zion attended the Sunday school convention here Tuesday by auto. An exchange says do not be hoggish. You can’t take anything with you when you die and if you did it might burn up.
Mr and Mrs Henry Wright traveling from Denver to Enid stopped in town Wednesday to visit J B Wright and family. Joy Reinhart a Beatrice High School senior placed second in exams and will deliver the salutatory at commencement.
Attorneys H. J. Dobbs Harry Sackett and court reporter O Kiele were in Diller on Wednesday taking a deposition in the Colman divorce case before Notary Thomas P. Price. Charles Jones inventor and patentee of the Jong automobile, manufactured at Beatrice, brought them over in the first car of their make.
Anna Elisabeth Hicken died April 22 1909 after a four week illness of rheumatism. She was the youngest daughter of Fred and Mrs Hicker born near Diller July 15 1894 aged 15 years 9 months and 7 days. Survived by father mother four sisters four brothers and many friends. Services held Sunday at 2 pm at the home by Rev Boyle. Remains laid to rest in Prairie Home Cemetery.
The Kansas City Commercial Club with 125 members plans a Burlington trip arriving in Diller on Wednesday May 12 at 3 20 p m and departing at 3 20 p m A train of 2 baggage cars 2 dining cars and 8 or 9 sleeping cars will carry them Residents of Diller are expected to give them a cordial reception at the depot during their brief stop.
