Rev. Pyche attends the state Conference of the Congregational church at Omaha this week then joins Mrs. Pyche in Lincoln to visit their injured son’s home. They plan to travel to West Point to visit their daughter. Rev. Wolff departed Tuesday for Fremont for the student pastors Council through Thursday.
Mr and Mrs Beckwith receive a letter from daughter Mary stating she is elected to teach at a school three miles from Humboldt Nebraska. Mary has studied in Humboldt for two years and will graduate with the class of 38. She is in the senior class play Meet the Duchess to be performed May 6 at the high school auditorium.
Mr. and Mrs. T P Price arrived in Beatrice last week from Tucson Arizona and stayed with Mr. and Mrs Harve Pittenger. They drove home in eight days and Mr Price visited the office last Friday.
Walter Fisher, formerly of Blue Springs and a pro from Burlington, received a track‑or assistant promotion and will base at Pawnee City Nebraska. He is the son of Geo Fisher of Diller.
Misses Clara Achtemeier and Pearl Sparks received a grass skirt with accessories as a souvenir from Pearl Sparks’s brother Roe, currently in Honolulu, reflecting a tropical keepsake from the Hawaiian Islands.
A program and free lunch are planned at the Harbine school house this Friday. The event includes a quilt giveaway and a choir performance by Reboread 2 can.
Major Bowes praises Lincoln Nebraska as honor city on a broadcast across 114 stations of the Columbia Broadcasting System. The program begins at seven p m tonight and airs nationwide from the network.
Dr and Mrs Ellie plan a brief trip to Kanovado Kansas to check on land they own and return home Tuesday. Their office will be closed during the absence.
Mr and Mrs Noah Handley of Steele City visited Diller on Tuesday touring the Col man orphanage and the Wag goner funeral home during their trip.
The Protestant Orphans Home, a Nebraska charity formed in 1934 under Andrew H. Colman’s will, provides housing clothing food care medicine education and religious training for Protestant orphans. Trustees S R Merrell C L Waggoner and J Smith Diller. later Lillie M Colman named third trustee. Office in Diller with a 95 acre farm and brick cottages under construction fronting a timbered landscape with planned hedges and evergreens. site chosen for savings in construction and rural oversight. Obituary from Harbine area notes Verna Marie Southwick and her baby perished April 21 1938 at age 32. Born to Frank J Murray and wife she taught near Harbine and helped lead Sunday school. Survived by husband Raleigh N Southwick son Gail and daughter Lila Lee, siblings, and many friends. Funeral services held April 24 at Harbine Methodist Church with large crowd. Interment at Home Cemetery Diller.
Mrs. Margaret Albers purchased the Eliza Drullinger residence west of the school at a referee's sale last Saturday for 410 dollars. Albers plans this as her home. Supt. L. Sinkey had occupied the residence since moving to Diller three years ago.
