Mr and Mrs Joseph Novotny celebrate fifty years of marriage with an open house for neighbors friends and relatives next Sunday from 2 to 5 pm at their home north of Diller on the John Mathias farm. They were married April 24 1888.
J. Smith Diller drove to Lincoln last Saturday to meet his son Dr Aubrey Diller of the University at Ubana Illinois who remained until Tuesday. Miss Rachel Diller of Lincoln also spent the weekend at her father’s home.
A short note urges annual eye exams for safety and mentions consulting Dr Neil C Morrison in Fairbury Nebraska.
Wm. Stewart has purchased the Diller property and begun extensive work this week including new wiring city water hookup and a fresh coat of paint. The home, long in need of maintenance, is receiving overdue improvements.
Alpha Wiemers filed Tuesday for County Commissioner on the Democratic ticket for the First District. A local candidate described as qualified and well known, with expectations to challenge opponents in the race.
Everett Blauser visited with wife and daughter Marline and her friend Miss Marline Roth at the Blauser parents home J. O. Blauser and wife last Sunday in a local social gathering.
Mr and Mrs Cloyd Cully and son Gayle traveled from Fairbury last Saturday. The visit included serving coffee at Allen's store while the family visited local friends.
The Congregational ladies announce their annual supper to be held next Saturday evening in the church annex. All are invited to attend for a meal and fellowship.
Mr and Mrs E. E McCune traveled to Lincoln on Wednesday to spend the rest of the week with their son and his family at their home.
Mr and Mrs Henry Fouts of Lincoln visited Monday at the home of Henrys mother Mrs Elizabeth Fouts.
Miss Ruth Pyche is not teaching in Lincoln this week as she stays home with mumps, visiting her parents instead.
Elmer Pearce and his family visited Diller last Sunday. Pearce holds a position with Rudge and Guenzel in Lincoln.
Dr Diehl spent Easter Sunday at the home of his daughter and her husband Mr and Mrs Steffens meer in Lincoln.
Steele City ball club will travel to Diller next Sunday afternoon for a practice game with the Diller club.
Elias Hadley moved into his newly acquired Mille property on Short Street this Monday, marking a key step in his local residence update.
Miss Alice Line of Omaha was a guest of her mother and other relatives during the weekend, sharing time with family members in a domestic visit.
Firemen hosted an in house entertainment Saturday night with admission five cents. Carl Lampe and wife returned to the store after an altercation involving mumps.

Gerald Ralph Close of Diller is among the 612 University of Nebraska students honored for high scholarship at the tenth annual Honors Convocation held Tuesday, April 19. Close ranks in the upper ten percent of the sophomore class in the College of Business Administration. Dr. T. W. Smith of the University of Chicago delivered the convocation address titled The Promise of American Politics.
While traveling home from Steele City last Thursday Chas Waggoner cut wild plum blossoms for Mrs Waggoner with a pen knife. He severed two fingers badly enough to need several silver clips for repair. Mrs Waggoner had to obtain blossoms herself.
Mr and Mrs Louis DeMers of Arlee Montana visited relatives in Omaha Beatrice and Diller last week. Mrs DeMers is related to the Dillers at this place Miss Marie Upson of Beatrice and sister of Cleve Hoyt of Omaha.
Francis Clark and two of his children departed for Omaha last Sunday after visiting here. Report says Frans will not return to Diller for at least a month, though such plans may change.
Bernard Patton left the latter part of last week for Powell Wyoming where he has employment. He had previously started but was turned back by the recent storm.
Mrs. Bert Haist and Mr. Bert Haist along with Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Shave of Crete were Sunday guests of their daughter and sister Mrs. Loren Stephens and her family.
Mrs. Scott Miller of Diller was honored this week at Stromsburg Nebraska by being elected president of the Fourth district of the Federation of the Woman's Club.
Dr Neil C Morrison of Fairbury was re elected president of the Nebraska Association of Optometrists at the annual convention in Omaha held last week.
A Tuesday evening cooking demonstration at city hall attracted a large audience and proved pleasant and profitable for attendees.
The Misses Maxine and Myrtie Hutchinson came from Bea trice to visit their parents Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Hutchinson over Maaeee Sunday.
Wendell Fanders arrives from Grand Island to spend Easter with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Dede Fanders and the family.
Gill Blauser appears with his black satchel in evidence once more as authorities pursue aid tricks tied to the ongoing case.
Mrs Mary Strokey arrived home yesterday after spending the winter with relatives at Blue Springs.
W. W. Stephens of Friend arrived Sunday evening to visit his son Lorren Stephens and family.
H C Kelley and family spent the weekend visiting in Lincoln. They were seen touring local sites and staying with friends during the visit.
Checker fans are invited to a two night event April 27 and 28 in the basement of the Fairbury City Library. Open to all players in the section with a silver cup awarded to the winner who must win the trophy twice to keep it. Play starts each evening at eight. Sponsored by the County Recreation Directors and County YMCA. Committee members C. Melander W. Erick and C. Iverson oversee registration by mail or in person before Tuesday April 26.
Sixty two year old Fred DeBoer marked his birthday at home last Sunday. His children and grandchildren attended including Bill DeBoer Lillian Mae Freida Ann Herman Schipper Velda Lakies Delvin Dale Emma DeBoer Frances Gilbert Lee Alfred Lary Roy Shottenkirk Margery Ann Vivia Mae LaVere Junker Leon Frances Edwin and others. At 5 o clock they shared birthday cakes then headed home wishing him many more. He has not been in good health but enjoyed the family gathering.
Mrs Grace Fasnacht and two sons joined Mr and Mrs Roy Mathias and daughter for a birthday dinner in Grand Island honoring Uncle F J Joseph who turned 38. The group stopped in Hastings to see cousin Mrs R L Packer recovering from inflammatory rheumatism. They noted a good rain and wheat looks better than around Diller with relatives from Palmer Lincoln Hastings Fairbury Nek a McFarland and Hanover Kansas.
Gasoline prices in Diller show volatility as Imperial Co cuts to 14 11 cents, Stewarts matches with 13 9 10 to 14 9 10 cents, and other dealers hold at 14 15 cents. Market notes indicate good gas at lower prices with ongoing competition.
Mrs Ida Woods entertained a group including Mr and Mrs Howard Peters of Fairbury Mr and Mrs Will Amos Mr Mudge Mr and Mrs ie Madden and boys Russell and expecting further names at Easter Sunday gathering.

Mr and Mrs Carl Ludington visited Lincoln last Saturday during a resumed trip. They spent time touring local sites and meeting residents, sharing greetings and news with acquaintances in the city.
Mrs. R. N. Southwick and her newborn child died this morning at a Fairbury hospital. Funeral services are set for Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at the home west of Harbine and at 2:30 p.m. at the Methodist church in Diller. The obituary will be published next week.
Katherine Ann Kelly was born in Steele City Nebraska on November 12 1881 and died at home on April 12 1938 aged 56 years five months. She married Frank Crinklaw October 29 1902 in Fairbury and had son Charles and daughter Francis. Survived by her husband son daughter two sisters Emma and Myrtle and other relatives. Lifelong Steele City resident except five years in Amsterdam New York with an uncle. A devoted wife loving mother and sister and active in church and fraternal orders. She was a Presbyterian and charter member of the Pythian Sisters and a member of the Degree of Honor.
Great Grand-dad writes from Brush Colorado about renewing a subscription with a check for 1.50. He reports good weather and a promising garden despite rain, notes family events including Loran's daughter Opal having twins, and signs as F. E. Hale.
The towns forming the new circuit scheduled picnics on varied dates including July 25-26 Odell and July 28-29 Barneston with Jansen substituting July 28-29 in place of nearby Barneston. Other dates include August 4-5 Burchards August 9-10 Blue Springs August 11-12 Diller August 16-16 Wymore August 18-19 Steele City and August 30-31 Liberty.
Mr. and Mrs. L. M. Hurst and son Donald visited Diller last Thursday afternoon seeking a local party to take a new Pontiac. Unable to secure a sale they returned to Beatrice and sold the car to another party.
Robert Dale Lawrence Connie Mae Clark and their mother traveled to Fairbury last Thursday evening to spend the night with their grandmother Mrs. Ida May Clark, according to local notes.
Mr. and Mrs. Guy Henderson and Mr and Mrs Gene Diller of Fairbury spent Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs Carrie Sparks, the latter's mother.
Arnold Henrichs of Baxter Iowa spent ten days at the home of his parents Mr and Mrs Fred Henrichs.
John Callan of Odell filed this week for the unicameral legislature. He joins other candidates seeking office in the state government, with campaign plans and policy positions to be announced.

The Elm Center school hosted the final P T A meeting of the season on Thursday April 14 with Miss Helen Long as teacher. Entertaining committee members were Mrs J R Hays Alvin Hitt and Mrs R E Hubka. The program featured the Arkansas Traveler with Archie Raney and others performing a lively stage piece along with songs readings and instrumental numbers. Refreshments of pies sandwiches and coffee were arranged by the committee headed by J R Hays Alvin Hitt and R E Hubka. The group notes five similar meetings this season all well received due to strong member cooperation under Archie Raney’s leadership.
Mrs Bowen entertained the J N C club at her home on Wednesday April 13 after a brief business session. A song she wrote titled Helping the J N C was performed by several members. Prizes were won in penny, letter and word contests. Guests included Mrs Ramish Mrs Hiatt and others. Refreshments were served and next meeting planned with Mrs J Hiatt hosting in May.
Mrs Ina Hill hosted the NCSA club on April 13 with a short business meeting led by president Mrs Carico. A vacancy was filled by electing Mrs A A Eick as secretary. Contests provided diversion and prizes were won by Mrs Carico, Mrs Fanders and Mrs Ludington. Luncheon followed served by the hostess with her daughters Mrs Glathar and Mrs Mayborn. Guests included Mrs Mollie Riddle, Mrs L F Sinkey, Mrs C Ludington, Mrs Will Glathar Jr, and Mrs E L Mayborn.
The N B Club held a meeting last Friday April 8 at Mrs Lorren Stephens home with five members present. They spent the afternoon sewing for the hostess and enjoyed horn of plenty salad two kinds of cake and coffee. The next meeting is scheduled for Friday April 22 at Mrs Jack Armstrongs home.
Ed McCune celebrated his birthday last Sunday as Charlies and family from near Fairbury and Orval and family from near Odell brought well filled baskets. They joined Mrs. McCune in arranging a dinner to honor the occasion.
Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Emerson received Sunday callers Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Harris and daughters of Beatrice, and Mr. and Mrs. Eon Slocum and family of Fairy.
