Checker Tournament Plans Set for April in Fairbury

Checker fans are invited to a two night event April 27 and 28 in the basement of the Fairbury City Library. Open to all players in the section with a silver cup awarded to the winner who must win the trophy twice to keep it. Play starts each evening at eight. Mrs Southwick and infant die in Fairbury notice

Mrs. R. N. Southwick and her newborn child died this morning at a Fairbury hospital. Funeral services are set for Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at the home west of Harbine and at 2:30 p.m. at the Methodist church in Diller. The obituary will be published next week.

Katherine Ann Kelly was born in Steele City Nebraska on November 12 1881 and died at home on April 12 1938 aged 56 years five months. She married Frank Crinklaw October 29 1902 in Fairbury and had son Charles and daughter Francis. Survived by her husband son daughter two sisters Emma and Myrtle and other relatives. Lifelong Steele City resident except five years in Amsterdam New York with an uncle. A devoted wife loving mother and sister and active in church and fraternal orders. She was a Presbyterian and charter member of the Pythian Sisters and a member of the Degree of Honor.

Elm Center P T A Season Finale Program Highlights

The Elm Center school hosted the final P T A meeting of the season on Thursday April 14 with Miss Helen Long as teacher. Entertaining committee members were Mrs J R Hays Alvin Hitt and Mrs R E Hubka. The program featured the Arkansas Traveler with Archie Raney and others performing a lively stage piece along with songs readings and instrumental numbers. Refreshments of pies sandwiches and coffee were arranged by the committee headed by J R Hays Alvin Hitt and R E Hubka. The group notes five similar meetings this season all well received due to strong member cooperation under Archie Raney’s leadership.

J N C Lady Bowen Hosts Apr Meeting

Mrs Bowen entertained the J N C club at her home on Wednesday April 13 after a brief business session. A song she wrote titled Helping the J N C was performed by several members. NCSA Club Meeting Noted In Ina Hill Home

Mrs Ina Hill hosted the NCSA club on April 13 with a short business meeting led by president Mrs Carico. A vacancy was filled by electing Mrs A A Eick as secretary. Contests provided diversion and prizes were won by Mrs Carico, Mrs Fanders and Mrs Ludington. Luncheon followed served by the hostess with her daughters Mrs Glathar and Mrs Mayborn. The N B Club held a meeting last Friday April 8 at Mrs Lorren Stephens home with five members present. They spent the afternoon sewing for the hostess and enjoyed horn of plenty salad two kinds of cake and coffee. The next meeting is scheduled for Friday April 22 at Mrs Jack Armstrongs home.
