Diller public schools finalize plans for Educational Day next Friday. Eight or ten rural schools expected to participate. Forenoon program at the school house from 9 30 to noon followed by a picnic lunch at park or gym. Diller’s band to perform an hour after lunch. Afternoon athletic contests close the day. See article in school notes.
Mrs Teckhaus Word passed away last week. She and her husband Rev Teckhaus served St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Diller from 1913 to 1920. After leaving Diller they moved to Wayne Nebraska where he led the parish. Funeral services for Mrs Teckhaus were held in Wayne on Tuesday April 21.
Alpha Wiemers rushed to Falls City after a fire of unknown origin swept through the upper rooms of the building that houses Wiemers Implement. The blaze caused only water damage to the Wiemers portion, while other occupants suffered about 10000 in damage. Cordia Wiemers oversees the family interests in Falls City.
Mr and Mrs N V Diller and their young daughter from Chicago visited Lincoln relatives. Neal spent the day visiting then returned to Lincoln and Chicago. Mrs Diller and Dalice stayed longer with relatives and planned to return to Chicago on Thursday.
The city reports Mayor W A Snyder is slowly recovering after a severe heart attack on Friday night and will be incapacitated for a brief period while convalescing at home.
Doctor Diehl reported planting sixty seven shade trees ninety fruit trees and forty roses last week. He owns farms near Diller and a residence in town to keep treed up.
Gage county announces its annual free fair with four day exposition from September 22 to 25. The racing bill applies to Gage county horses only and free entertainment will be provided by local talent.
C. J. Saathoff used potatoes gathered while plowing last season to seed this spring. He planted nearly a quarter acre from that seed and reports the sprouts coming up nicely.
A primary election vote is praised by Fred W Messmore in a brief note to the voters of Jefferson County. He expresses sincere gratitude for the support received.
York Neb broadcasting station KGBZ will go off air after May 7 as the Federal Radio Commission has declined to renew its license. The decision ends the station’s broadcasts in York and surrounding area.

The Diller Woman's Club music committee led by Mrs. Schindler Miss Smith and Miss Hanson will present a Sunday evening concert at 7 30 PM in the Congregational church on April 26. The program features selections from The Bohemian Girl Carmen Hänsel and Gretel and more with performances by the Community Orchestra and soloists including Cleo Green Gretchen Fanders Miss Hamel and others.

Theodore Neese 73 died at 1 15 Wednesday morning at his home in Diller after a long illness. He homesteaded in Nebraska since 1881, lived at Beatrice then near Wyomore, moved to Diller two years ago. Survived by widow Anna and three children Lulu Sickley Beatrice Carl Neese Los Angeles Martha Rodewald Diller. brother Rolly Neese Omaha. Services 2 pm Bergmeier funeral home Rev R B Fouts officiating. Interment Wyomore.
A Democratic caucus for Pleasant precinct voters meets at city hall Saturday night at 8 for selecting 12 delegates to the county convention in Fairbury next week. Candidates for assessor and road overseer will also be chosen. Precinct Committee.
A septic tank and disposal system was installed this week at the residence of the senior building company manager following repairs to rooms above the building. Ey Segeioue's Oil Company oversight noted the improvements as part of ongoing property upgrades.
The county treasurer compiles a list of delinquent Jefferson County taxes four or more years in arrears including 1931. By July 1, 1936, the list will go to the district court. Certificates may be held two years before foreclosure sales, with clear title to purchasers and no redemption after sale. The scavenger law is not used due to hardship. under the old law owners have two years to pay before sale to the highest bidder.
County soil conservationists organize a county association in Fairbury with officers for 1936 led by Milt Coffman as chairman and Lee Dragoo as vice chairman. The group adopts articles of association, with E M Luther explaining them, and the Jefferson County Farm Bureau will elect permanent officers on Saturday April 26 at the Fairbury courthouse.
A note indicates Bill Frisbie dropped an office postal card requesting his record be sent to Ogema Wisconsin in the future. The Frisbies may be changing their permanent residence from Fairbury where they have lived for several years.
Mr and Mrs Drexler of Steele City are renovating the old Gifford residence recently purchased from the Dressen estate They plan to move to Diller and occupy the home in the near future.
Work crews replace an aging four way frame structure in South Beatrice with a new steel and concrete viaduct. The veteran crossing served about 40 years before renewal begins.
Delegates Mrs. A. O. Richardson and Mrs. Scott Miller attended the 4th District Convention of Womans Clubs in Aurora. Miller reelected district vice president and appointed press and publicity chair. Sessions at Federated Church featured Education for Living. resolutions favored national academies and child labor amendments. Beatrice hosts state convention this fall. district membership now 2314.

Mr and Mrs Jake Lottman of Diller Miss Jennie Lottman Fairbury and Mr and Mrs Fern Lottman and son LaVerne Arnold Beatrice returned from Centerville South Carolina where they were called by the illness of Mrs George Tajden They left her somewhat improved but a card yesterday reported her worse.
Several Harbine residents attend the Junior Class play held Wednesday evening. Amanda Renemlarees Reuben and other Harbine youths appear in the Diller Big Pool junior cast.
The Diller High School junior class presented Depend On Me to a full house Wednesday at the opera house. The cast of eleven drew praise for fitting their roles well and delivering a memorable, well staged performance with noted standout Reuben Fanders and Myrtle Hutchinson.
Payments of 21 cents per bushel will be issued to Jefferson County wheat farmers who filed contracts and adjusted seedings before January 6, 1986. The full settlement settles the Secretary of Agriculture's obligation for those who followed wheat adjustment contract requirements. Funds relate to the 1936 agricultural conservation program with no right to Soil Conservation Program participation. Payments will begin months later as compliance is secured.
