The Beatrice Power Company announces a significant voluntary cut in retail rates for residential and commercial lighting and commercial power. The reduction appears on April bills due May 1, with a 10 percent discount for payments made between the 1st and 10th of the month.
A freshers Tuesday night incident west of the Concordia branch saw the east approach to a bridge wash out letting the bridge end drop as a Summerfield Kansas auto traveled onto it. Three people were in the car. no injuries or damage reported. One front wheel caught on the iron railing, keeping the vehicle on the span.
Henry Weiner bought the Raymond Novotny grocery store in Odell after six years at Callan Bros. gas station. New fixtures were added and the store opened for business Saturday morning April 25 with free coffee and doughnuts and each entrant receiving a small package of pancake flour.
Last Friday a large plate glass pane from a rear door at a farmers store blew out as the door opened. The pane broke into many pieces on the cement sidewalk. No one was seated in front of the window when the crash occurred.
Dr Diehl and Ellis report their office building flooded after a Tuesday night rain. On Wednesday forenoon they carried water in buckets from the basement following the downpour and disarray of the gutter outlet by some children.
Clarence Johnson of Lenwood Nebraska has been elected to succeed I M Weber who resigned as school superintendent in Plymouth. The move sets a new leadership for the local school system.

Mrs. Ben Seibolt of near Odell is visiting at the home of her sister Mrs. Berthel Weaver and husband.
The Pioneer Conference Track Meet, directed by Coach Lloyd Sinkey, will be held at Diller on Tuesday May 5 starting at 1 00 PM. Ten cent admission. Six teams Endicott Plymouth Reynolds Daykin Steele City and Diller compete for four places per event with trophies for winners and runners-up and ribbons for first second and third. Events include sprints distance races jumps throws and relays such as 100 yd dash 880 yd run pole vault broad jump shot put 44 yd dash high jump discus 220 yd dash mile and 880 yd relay javelin and more.
Mr and Mrs Elmo Hadley of Missouri visited Diller last Saturday driving a new Chevrolet coupe. They sold their Lincoln apartments and seek an acreage near their daughter Creola in Missouri or Lela in Endicot. They hold options on properties near Missouri, Endicot, and Diller and may relocate to Fairbury while pondering their best choice. Elmo enjoys driving the new car despite a few rough moods.
The Babies Dr Rice lists newborns this week including two girls born to Mr and Mrs Albert Hubka on April 24 weighing 562 and 74 pounds respectively. A boy born to Mr and Mrs Clarence Wolken on Sunday evening April 26 at the hospital weighing 8 pounds. A daughter born to Mr and Mrs Wm Wiemers on April 28 at the hospital weighing 74 pounds. A daughter born to Mr and Mrs Harvey Black by April 21 at the hospital. A daughter born to Mr and Mrs Harold Frisbie of Fairbury on Monday April 27 weighing 74 pounds.
Jefferson County Farm Bureau formed a permanent organization at a Fairbury courthouse meeting. Officers elected include Claude Nider as president, Lee Dragoo as vice president, and J. Smith Diller as secretary treasurer, with J. Smith Diller and Diller as board members. Victor Rediger of Knox county and Willard Waldo of DeWitt were candidates for Agricultural Agent, to be approved by an Advisory Council formed from precinct representatives.
All boys and girls in the tree planting project should report to the committee after planting to enroll as contestants. It is not too late to plant a tree and enter. Mrs. O. J. Mayborn, Mrs. A. A. Kickers, Ralph Long, Communities.
Arbor Day lacked formal observance here yet many trees and shrubs were planted during the week. Some residents chose the day set apart for the occasion to plant trees.

The Cornbelt Lumber Company received another car of lumber on Wednesday from the western coast, signaling continued supply for local building needs. The shipment adds to recent deliveries supporting construction and repair projects in the area.
After a long dry spell a three fourths inch drizzle Sunday gave way to a heavier downpour Tuesday evening. Pluvious delivered two and 37-100 inches, greens lawns and pastures, boosting confidence in a bumper wheat yield.
Miss Rachel Viers has contracted to teach 5th and 6th grades in Union Nebraska public schools for the coming school year. She previously taught at Duboise for a couple of years. Dr Viers accompanied her to Lincoln Saturday to sign the contract and then returned to Diller for a Sunday visit with home folks.
Joseph Novotny brought the heaviest dozen eggs to the store last Saturday and received one dollar in trade. The eggs weighed 294 ounces in total, suggesting an average dozen around twenty four ounces.
Mr and Mrs Fred Freitag of Pierre South Dakota visited the office on a Tuesday forenoon while traveling to Wyoming. They formerly resided at a place and Odell.
Hubert Filley, coach at Cortland, has been elected principal and coach of Stamford High School in Nebraska, about 150 miles west of Diller. The election represents a promotion for Filley.
A community orchestra led by Mrs. Claudia Schindler presented five operatic numbers last Sunday at the Congregational church. Weather kept many away, but attendees enjoyed selections from The Bohemian Girl Tannhauser and Carmen with performers including Miss Hamel Miss Smith Miss Hanson and others. Mrs. Schindler plans have run for years and this may be her final program before she and Mr Schindler leave for Diller after the school term ends.
The CCC boys from Fairbury completed planting 6000 trees on the A. H. Gretzinger farm near Steele City as part of the federal soil conservation plan. Willow elm cottonwood honey locust and Osage hedge were planted in clumps at strategic points.
Diller's health column lists flu sufferers for the past week including Abe Watson, Mr. Bugbee, Roy Geer, Mary Green, Bert Kite, Mrs. Ben Seibolt, Berthel Weaver, S. C. Hutchinson, and A. Mayborn.

A 4H Club meeting for girls will be held at City Hall in the evening. The event plans to organize two clubs one for older girls focusing on Winter Clothes and the other for younger girls learning. Ages 10 to 20 inclusive. Mothers and daughters invited. those wishing to join or notify the leader Mrs. Ralph Long.
Daykin Herald notes Ed Jacobs keeps five pigs, each a different color. One is black, one a Hampshire, one white and black, one red and black, and another red, forming a curious little flock east of Daykin.
The Steele City News reports Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Drake were in Omaha where the husband is receiving treatment for rheumatism at a local hospital.
