Bud Lottman Wounded on Okinawa Island

Relatives report PFC Bud Lottman of the 96th Division is wounded on Okinawa after heavy fighting on the southern front. He recently earned the Expert Combat Rifleman badge on Leyte and is hospitalized with a head wound from a Japanese grenade. He has been awarded the Bronze Star and is eligible for the Purple Heart.

Seventh War Loan Drive Starts with Largest County Quota

Jefferson county sets a record quota for the Seventh War Loan Drive to run May 14 through June 30 with an individual bond target of 723000 and an E bond quota of 321000. County war finance chairman DC Britkell urged every resident to buy bonds as all purchases through the Federal Reserve between April 19 and July 7 count toward the drive.

Ernie Pyle Killed In Pacific War Theatre

The nation mourns the death of Ernie Pyle the GI's columnist slain by Japanese machine gun fire on Ōe Jima while covering the advance of the 10th Army troops. The small island lies west of Okinawa and was invaded earlier in the week.

Local Soldier Home After Gasoline Fire Burns

Mrs LaForest Fasnacht celebrated after receiving a telegram and then a phone call from her husband Pfc LaForest Fasnacht who was badly burned in a gasoline explosion last November in France. He was in New York hospital and expects to return home soon.

Diller High School News Diller Supt Resigns for Milford Post

Diller High School reports Superintendent Ludington resigned to take a similar position at Milford. Juniors plan the Junior-Senior Banquet for Saturday May 2 at the Congregational Church. Teachers exams were held with the regular schedule followed. The district music festival is set for Geneva on Friday April 20 with Diller参加 sol os and groups listed. The education show moved to April 24 from 10 am to 2:45 pm at the high school gym. Mrs. McBride was called to Lincoln for a family illness. First track meet is Friday April 27 at Crete for both boys and girls. Juniors sponsored by Mrs. Hiatt held a Beatrice party on April 14 to see The Princess and the Pirate and I Love a Mystery, with lunch at Burwood Cafe.
