A regulation weight boy was born Thursday morning April 15 16 to Mr and Mrs Vern Pick ard at the home of her parents Mr and Mrs George Specht one mile west and two north of Diller.
Dr. O C Diehl was summoned Tuesday to assist Dr. Rice of Odell in a case involving Carson Luedders who lived between Odell and Brennan Kansas. Luedders was driving two teams tied to a long pole used in ditching when the double tree broke and the pole struck, breaking both legs below the knees.
A. Mayborn traveled to Beatrice on a business trip Wednesday afternoon. Miss Clara Wible daughter of Charley Wible has a slight tonsilitis. Strawberry plants noted in the field. Senator Dunlap is listed at 50c and Progressive Everbearer at 75c per hundred. Clark McCurdy of Steele City listed as 1620. Donald Tincher moved his family yesterday from rooms in the opera house block to the Elias Hadley residence near the Federated church. Rev. McCallister left Monday for Valley Nebraska to conduct funeral services of a former parishioner and returned Wednesday.
Citizens denounce chickens trespassing on gardens and property in the Village of Diller. The Village Board prohibits the nuisance and warns violators to stop, issued by Village Clerk Chas E Waggoner.
Loreng Willems resigns from Habicht's store clerical position and departs Monday for Warroad Minnesota to visit his brother Dick and family through late May. He will be joined home by Mrs Dick Willems and sons Raleigh and Norman after a few months. Lorenz holds a 15 week Standard Chautauqua Co contract from June to early September before reentering Lincoln State University.
A vivid northern lights show Wednesday night drew many Diller residents outdoors. An arch stretched across the sky from east to west with waves, while streamers rose toward the zenith. The spectacle, visible after an electrical disturbance, lasted past midnight and had neighbors calling friends to view it.
Mrs. Anna Rutheford of Seattle is spending the winter with her parents at Odell and is visiting her old friend Mrs. Herman Peters in Diller for a few days.
The High School presents the operetta Rings in the Sawdust tonight at the Diller Opera House with a circus atmosphere featuring clowns barkers and tents. The senior Orange and Black orchestra provides music. Admission is 35c 25c and 10c.
Last Friday night a group returning from a weianie roast with Margaret Logan aboard were involved in a crash. Orval Wiemers suffered a broken shoulder bone while Bernice Fanning Beatrice Fanning Wilbur Eick and Lee Stull sustained serious bruises.
The Library Association annual meeting in the Library room on Monday night March 12 elected officers: President F. T. Pearce, 1st Vice President M. Callander, Vice President Mrs. D. V. Fanders, Secretary O. J. Mayborn, Treasurer S. C. Hutchinson. Committees were named and reports show 1040 books on hand, 1970 total loans, and year receipts from fines and movie show revenues.
Diller grain market lists corn at 57 cents per bushel three weeks and year, wheat at $1.50, oats at 35 cents. About three tons of slack coal remain at 25 cents per hundredweight, promoted as excellent for hogs by Cornbelt Lumber Co of Diller, Nebraska.
Mr and Mrs Frank Grone attended the funeral at Odell Tuesday for Joseph Sible great uncle of Mrs Grone. Sible was found dead Sunday morning at age sixty three and death is believed due to heart trouble.
The Womans Club of Osceola postpones Apr 19 meeting to Apr 26. D W C met at Christian church with large attendance. Mrs Frank Tincher spoke on the upcoming district convention at Osceola April 22. Remarks covered home improvement and parliamentary ruling with performances by Flossie Raymond and Mrs Cully. New member Mrs Paul Beckwith joined the club.
Mrs. A. J. Hutchinson lists Barred Rock eggs for sale at 60 cents per setting or 3 dollars per 100. Mrs. Fred Dickoff recovering from flu. tf
George Henry Phillips born October 8, 1840 in Freport Illinois died April 10 1926 in Diller Nebraska after a life marked by Civil War service in the 46th Illinois, marriage to Mary Emily Rollen in 1872, moves from Fort Worth to Nebraska and then Diller, trade as a blacksmith, Christian church member, long lodge affiliations, survived by three sons Omer Earl and Leroy and grandson Lyle Dean. Funeral services were held at his home and the Christian church with burial at Evergreen Home Cemetery Beatrice by his wife.
