Columbus city attorney Leach moved to dismiss the Ohio Bell and Ohio State Telephone merger application as it affects Columbus. He argued the action seeks to force the companies to reveal rate plans and charges after consolidation, pressuring them to disclose terms.
About 40 warrants have been issued for men alleged to have formed part of an armed force that led to federal troops entering the West Virginia coal region. Magistrate Gore issued the warrants at the request of Logan County prosecuting attorney John Chafin. A special grand jury is to be convened next Wednesday to investigate disturbances in eastern Logan county. witnesses are being summoned.
Ohio State University enrollment shows an 80 percent drop in the College of Agriculture while the university overall records a 10 percent rise. Dean Alfred Vivian urges Ohio farm boys to attend, arguing agricultural training boosts farm income and improves rural life and opportunities.
In New York the German mark fell sharply in the foreign exchange market today. The currency slid from a prewar value of 28.4 cents to a noontime quotation around 1.005 cents, marking its lowest postwar level.

Stockholders in Fisk Rubber Co and Federal Rubber Co vote to consolidate and to absorb Ninegrat Co as a subsidiary. The merger will form Fisk Rubber Co and includes issuance of 10 million dollars in bonds.

Warsaw New York reports a tragedy where Lloyd Warren of Hermitage suffocated while working on an automobile in a small garage. Mary Miles Standish, 31, collapsed after learning of his death and died after a period of grief and delirium. Her funeral was held today, coming one week after the burial of her sweetheart.
Chicago board of trade adopts rule amendment to stop dealing in Indemnity contracts and move to discontinue those trades. Canton faces a looming tax rate of 24.8 guilis for the coming year unless city needs are cut, with estimates pending review.
Lucas county deputy sheriffs Sam Zimmerman and Andrew Szemetko were dismissed by Sheriff Taylor for gross negligence and flagrant violation of orders after three post office bandits escaped from the Lucas county Jail on Labor Day.
In Cincinnati on September 8, saloon keeper Anthony Meerpohl and former patrolman John Brady were shot in a pistol duel at Meerpohl's saloon. Police say the fight arose from a free for all that began the previous night. Meerpohl says Brady led the trouble and was told to stay away. Brady returned and the exchange began with both men mortally wounded.
The Associated Press reports from Washington that the corn crop, which fell about 91 million bushels in July, rose by 154 million bushels in August. Indicated September 1 production stands at 4.186 billion bushels. Winter wheat is estimated at 644 million and spring wheat at 210 million based on Sept 1 conditions.
Bandit Roy Gardner remains at large as of Sept 8 on McNeal Island Washington home to a federal prison. All available island forces guard beaches and boats while launches patrol surrounding waters to prevent escape to the mainland. The island’s wild impenetrable terrain could allow a long hideout if unwounded.
Reports from Fairbanks indicate a sensational gold strike along Wilbur Creek north of the city. A stampede of miners and prospectors is under way as telegraph and mail reports describe discoveries and prompt expert investigators to proceed.
Secretary of Labor James J. Davis tentatively will deliver the principal address at a large gathering in Columbus on Sept 21 in connection with the quadrennial sessions of the American Insurance Union. Mrs. William Kehr, 40, and her children Walter 11 Nellie 16 were seriously burned in Bellaire after attempting to fill a gasoline stove with the fire burning. The house was practically destroyed and Mrs Kehr is thought to be fatally burned.

A railroad man struggled to move him as the wheels stood still, delaying operations while the animal’s whim was satisfied. The Russian Soviet government rejected the International Relief Commission set by the Allied supreme council to investigate conditions in Russia. A note from Soviet Foreign Minister Chitcherts to England, Italy, France and Belgium denounces Joseph Noulens as chairman, calling the appointment a monstrous sneer at starving Russia.
Associated Press reports Ford, owner of the road, said two shop pairings will be rented in Springfield and Napoleon and other points along the road to speed repairs. He spent two hours inspecting road property and outlined service aims across east west rails linking a strong business base. He hinted at possible steamboat interest as Ohio River remains navigable year round for traffic.
Secretary Mellon recommended to the Senate Finance Committee the retroactive repeal of the excess profit tax to January 1 and the capital stock tax to January 1 next year. To offset the loss this year he proposed retaining half the transportation tax until June 1 1921, and extending manufacturers tax on cosmetics and proprietary medicines with a 6 percent increase in the normal income rate to 15 percent.
Gas resumes at noon in Lima after an eight day cut off affecting about 15,000 customers of the Lima Natural Gas Co. A temporary settlement on rates, reached in Columbus by company representatives, ended the interruption though details of the agreement were not released. Akron dealers report a shortage of jury releasures.
