Dalton High School Commencement Honors Class Of graduation
The Dalton High School commencement featured twenty girls in white and twenty four boys with pink roses, on a stage with Sugar Creek and Baughman Township Boards of Education. Supt. Ralph Hathaway led the program as Rev. A S Rosenberger offered the invocation and Richard Moser gave the welcome. W L Manahan of Defiance delivered the key address with wit and moral framing, urging character over perceived success. Diplomas were presented by J N Moser, with closing remarks by the superintendent and benediction by Rev. R G Pinkerton.

Firefighters Save Farm Buildings From Lightning Blaze
Firemen from Dalton Canal Fulton and Massillon used about 3300 feet of hose to battle a straw fire on the Lawrence farm along the Massillon Orrville road north of North Lawrence. Lightning struck shortly before 4 pm igniting straw. crews worked three hours to save a barn 20 feet away and monitored smoldering remains until 9 pm.

Orrville Man Dies After Bee Attack
Christian Conrad, 79, died in Orrville Monday about 30 minutes after a swarm stung him around a hive while mowing weeds. He was stung about 50 times, physicians said. Two years earlier he suffered a similar severe bee sting episode.

East Greenville Girl Loses Eye in BB Gun Incident
Four year old Janet Brehme of East Greenville lost her right eye after a BB pellet from a playmate’s gun penetrated it. Doctors at Massillon City Hospital removed the damaged eye to protect the left. Her condition was reported as good today.
