Hofstetters to Depart for Two Years of European Relief Work

Mr. and Mrs. Stan Hofstetter plan two year relief work in Europe after leaving for M. C. headquarters in Akron Pa. Their sailing date from New York is July 2. Iona Hofstetter formerly Gerber earned a Bluffton College B A in 1946 and taught fifth grade in Pandora. Stan Hofstetter, a Bluffton graduate in sociology with Bible and philosophy minors, was active in Thespians and Peace club. A farewell in Salem church basement was held June 13.

Minister Couple Attend North East Ohio Conference

Reverend and Mrs L E Flauhaus left Tuesday for the opening session of the North East Ohio Annual Conference of the Methodist Church at Lakeside. The Conference will be in session one week.

Federated Circle Set Thursday Meeting With Hosts

The Federated Circle will meet Thursday night with Mrs. Morris Hershey. Committees include program chaired by Mrs. Marvin Wertz and Mrs. John Sandwith, refreshments led by Mrs. Jacob Hasseman and Mrs. Jerry Shisler, and devotions by Mrs. Clyde Wenger.

Local festival on Town Hall lawn to aid band benches

The 11th Regt band sponsors a Saturday festival on the Town Hall lawn, June 26. Food, bingo and music by the Dalton School band and the 11th Regt band will be available. Proceeds fund benches at the band stand for concertgoers. donations of cakes and pies are requested and volunteers at stands are welcomed.

Community Men's Choir Performs in Bluffton and Pandora

The Community Men's Choir directed by Victor Gerber gave concerts last Sunday afternoon and evening in Bluffton and Pandora. Attending from Dalton and the community were D. R. Vacation Bible School Closes in Dalton Presbyterian Church

The Dalton Vacation Bible School closed on Friday June 18 at the Presbyterian Church with class programs and display of work books and art. One hundred six pupils enrolled. average attendance was 102. Certificates of achievement were awarded and a picnic lunch followed with ice cream treats provided by the ministerial association. Special thanks to Russell Thompson for pins Paul Schultz for ice cream and the Dalton School Board for use of the building.

Jennings Celebrate 30th Wedding Anniversary

Mr and Mrs C M Jennings celebrated their 30th anniversary Sunday. Present were Clay Jennings and Vickie Jean of Apple Creek Kenneth Jennings Lois Korns of Cleveland Melvin Jennings Melva Ann Jackie of Bloomington Ind. Children gave a cake and radio. Shower For Bride To-Be At Thompson Home

Miss Hazel Amstutz, bride-to-be, received a large number of gifts at a Friday evening shower hosted by Miss Arlene Thompson at the grandfather A L Thompson residence on Route 30 West. Prizes went to Miss Lucile Kelley and Mrs Richard Hochstetler in games. Refreshments included cookies mixed nuts ice cream orangeade and coffee.

Purina Farm Visit Highlights Grain Savings Practices

Ray Shisler and Bill Snyder of Dalton toured the Purina Research Farm at Gray Summit Missouri. They observed practical grain saving methods for meat and eggs, noting one bushel can produce two units with proper protein minerals and vitamins. The 73 acre Ozarks foothill farm showed year round turkey production, 18 pigs per sow annually, and dairy heifers ready to breed at 12 to 15 months. For over two decades the farm has pursued breeding feeding sanitation and management programs that boost meat milk and eggs while cutting grain use.

Friendly Neighbor Homemakers Meet

The June meeting of the Friendly Neighbor Homemakers was held at the home of Mrs. Otto Tschantz on June 17. President Mrs. Mable Wenger presided, devotion led by Mrs. Ed Gonter, and a brides month song led by Mrs. Hilda Hasse man. Thirty eight answered Roll Call with wedding dress descriptions. Discussions covered Home Freezing and Care of Linens. Contests and refreshments followed, and plans made to meet at Mrs. Hasseman’s home next month.

Miss Waneta Showalter Earns National Church Scholarship

Waneta Showalter daughter of Mr and Mrs D W Showalter near Dalton won a church youth council delegate post in Chicago. She received a scholarship to represent the middle U S at the Brethren annual conference in Colorado Springs June 16 21 and will attend a two week peace education training at Camp Herman Langonoxie Kansas.
