Dalton Cemetery Stand funded by dog show donations

Community Club reports progress on a permanent Dalton Cemetery band stand funded by donations from labor and materials. Dr L DeArment donated dog show receipts and $25, plus the project has received strong local support but $144.01 remains to cover all accounts. Donors may pay through Harry B. Gregory at the Book Restaurant or any committee member.

Warren Delos Harper 65 a DeLand resident for two decades died Monday night at Orange General Hospital Orlando after months of illness He owned Hotel Harper and previously ran a restaurant cafeteria and hotel He is survived by two daughters Evelyn Gailbreath and Florine Gilliland and a sister Ida Schultz Funeral services were held Wednesday at Allen Summerall Chapel with Rev W Clyde Smith and burial was in Oakdale Cemetery

Dalton Plays at Akron as Merchants Split Doubleheader

Dalton Merchants win 8 7 in the first game and lose 5 4 in the nightcap at League Park near Summit Beach. Girard started the opener, Sauters and McFarren pitched the second. McAdams homered in the second game. Swartz scored the winning run on a fourth pitch misplay as Walnut Creek threatened late. Sauters toed the rubber in relief, nursing a shoulder issue.

Beaver Dam man charged with manslaughter in hit-and-run

Gerald Patton of Beaver Dam Ky faced a manslaughter charge after a Massillon death from a hit and run. An inquest Tuesday noted he drove about 50 mph without proper certification. Patton was arraigned in Justice Van Nest’s court with $5,000 bond and held for grand jury.

All members of the Dalton Volunteer Fire Company are asked to report for a fire drill on Tuesday evening June 28. Those absent will be replaced by new members. The fire siren will sound every Tuesday at 6 30 p m calling all members to drill.
