Dalton School Board approves teacher salary hike and bids

The Dalton school district board voted to raise teacher salaries by 100 annually and to publish bids for classroom furniture for the new elementary school and a high school addition. They also authorized purchases for cafeteria equipment in Cleveland and a 4 000 gallon fuel oil tank for Kidron.

Monday Mothers Club Reports Fundraising and Events

The Monday Mothers club of the future kindergarten in Dalton met June 6 with 22 members. Reports covered bake sales netting about $30 and a June 18 sale at Grim's Garage. A July 20 festival fundraiser at the Coun try Store was approved and a town canvass planned. An instrument concert for the kindergarten is set for June 17 at the Presbyterian church. Treasurer's report shows about $900. Next meeting July 11.

Dessert bridge party aids kindergarten at VFW Post Home

The VFW Ladies Auxiliary sponsors a dessert bridge at the Post Home on June 23 at 8 EST to benefit the kindergarten. Admission is $1 per person with door prizes. Reserve tables by calling TA 8 2646 or TA 8 2720.

Garden Club Visit to Rose Gardens and Auction

The Dalton Garden Club toured rose gardens of Mrs. Orwick Sr. and Mrs. Jack Moser before a V F W post home meeting. Roll call was Your Wild Flower. Arrangements included Little Red Riding Hood and a June bride gift tree. A shower arrangement by Mrs. Blosser featured a miniature bride and hidden ice cubes. Mrs. Scott spoke on wallflowers. A Swedish auction led by Mrs. Linson concluded the gathering.

Strawberry Festival Planned by Parents Association

The Parents Association will host a strawberry festival on the Town Hall lawn Saturday June 18 at 7 30 p m. Highlights include sandwiches sundaes cake and coffee for attendees.

Kent State selects graduate assistants for summer and year

Kent State University has named 31 graduate assistants across 23 departments for the summer quarter and next academic year. The group includes 16 colleges and universities represented and five from the Far East, with Marion Moser of Dalton in Political Science among the 1935 56 cohort.

Local Social Notes and School Call for Annuals

Guests include Mr. and Mrs. Harry P. Dague of Akron at the Wenger home. Gonter family vacationing in Chapman Kansas. Mr. and Mrs. David E Garger of Cold Spring Kentucky visiting friends in Dalton. About 80 high school annuals to be claimed at the high school office. Glenn Lawrence and daughter Melody moved from Santa Monica to Dalton to live with his parents. Dalton fire department responded to a false alarm from Bowman road. Mrs. Chas Bach recently discharged from University Hospital Columbus in improved condition. Harry Dauchy of Cleveland and Abbie Dauchy Ferguson of California paid a visit to Gazette. Harry once a printer's devil.

Safe Driving Award Presented to Dalton Rural Carrier

Mr. David P. Deterich received a six year Safe Driving Award Pin and citation at the Dalton post office. Marvin E. Oswald acting postmaster presented the award. Deterich has served as a rural carrier at Dalton for six years with a perfect safety record. The National Safety Council, through the Post Office Department, sponsors the award as part of a safety campaign.

Band Concert by 11th Regt Band Features Classic Pieces

The program lists marches and waltzes including March Men of Ohio The Belle of Chicago Serenade An Autumn Romance Overture Princess of India Londonderry Air Rosella March Royal Scotch Highlanders and additional pieces. The event is set for Saturday night June 18 from the band stand.

Funeral for Mrs Neva Burfield Held in Dalton

The funeral for Mrs Neva Blanch Burfield of S Mill St Dalton was at 2 pm Tuesday at the Presbyterian Church. The Rev L M Marker officiated. Burial followed at Dover Memorial Park. She died Saturday in Dunlap Memorial hospital Orrville. She was a Tuscarawas County native who had lived in Dalton 11 years. Survived by husband Lawrence Burfield foster daughter Rose Ann Leasure at home son Ralph Jentes Canton step son Chester Burfield Phoenix Ariz mother Florence Espenschied New Philadelphia six grandchildren and six sisters and three brothers.
