Two drown in Congress Lake tragedy near Canton
Helen Tilden of Canton and Carlton Truman drowned Monday afternoon in Congress Lake while attempting a rescue. Tilden, a Canton High and Ohio State alumna, was engaged to Truman, the soon to be Dalton schools superintendent. Ralph Tilden and a bystander tried to help as searchers recovered the bodies. Truman’s body was found later that day. Funeral arrangements for Miss Tilden are set in Canton, while Dalton schools face a vacancy in both superintendent and principal positions.

Automobile Runs Amuck at Wooster Band Concert
A car starting in gear plowed into the crowd after a Wooster street band event last Thursday night injuring two women and a baby. Prof. Geo N Coffey restrained the vehicle, saving others as the crowd dispersed. Injured include Mrs Hermes and Mrs Himas with their baby, both sustaining serious head injuries.

Smithville Fire Destroys Mill and Slumber Yards
A disastrous blaze struck Smithville west of here Sunday afternoon after a lightning strike hit the Miller planing mill. The mill and lumber yards burned, several neighboring barns were destroyed, and the residential section was saved only by a strenuous fight. Wooster sent firefighting apparatus to assist.

Lightning destroys Smucker barn near Orrville
During a Sunday electrical storm the Noah Smucker barn northwest of Orrville was struck by lightning and set ablaze. The fire destroyed six horses, 19 acres of wheat, 20 tons of hay, 15 bushels of corn, a wagon, planter, sprayer, harness and other farm equipment, with partial insurance coverage through Sonnenberg company.

Shooting Affray in Wooster Leaves Two Dead
Police chased through a swamp Sunday evening and arrested Tony Diau gusatini of Wooster for fatally shooting Nick Margosiani of Orrville. Joseph Chillo was also arrested after being found armed with two revolvers. The incident followed a brawl at Pasquale Guzzo’s Little Italy home where two Orrville friends joined for the day. Margossani died of three bullet wounds in the head and a razor gash. Jim Yutz of Orrville was fatally injured and taken to a hospital.

Wilson Gillespie fell from a ladder placed against a tree while picking apples Sunday afternoon. He struck his head on a stone as the ladder shifted and he was thrown backward, turning over. He was badly injured and stayed down for several days.
