L C Davison, longtime shoe dealer and Democrat, assumed the Dalton postmastership last Friday, succeeding H B Jameson who served nearly sixteen years. J C McAdams named assistant postmaster. The office remains at the same site, with Davison buying the equipment as the post office advances to class three.
At a special meeting of the Board of Education Victor W. Perry of Vaughneville Ohio was elected to fill the vacancy caused by Truman s death and H F Law of Guernsey county was elected principal The board is to be congratulated on securing these two fine young men at so late a date.
A large audience gathered Sunday evening on the school lawn for an open air service led by Rev. J. W. Findlay. He preached on Matthew 17 20 with the theme Victories of Faith. Music by the U P church choir. Rev. M A Burtis to preach next Sunday with the Presbyterian choir on music. Only three more outdoor services remain.
Ashley W Smyser announces sale of the Grain Elevator at Overton to Thomas R George who will continue the business. He asks public patronage for The Wooster Hardware Co and thanks friends for past support while pledging continued service.

Calvin Hensel, 52, of a farm two miles west of West Salem, suffered a right leg fracture in three places below the knee Monday evening when his team hitched to a binder ran away. He had been cutting outs and had paused, leaving the team in the field. in stopping them he was knocked down and the binder passed over him.

Louis Jones a 13 year old boy died after horses hitched to a moving van bolted and struck him on the Main Muskingum streets crossing as his father D A Jones a roller at Massillon Rolling Mill Company plant received medical aid. The accident occurred near the West Main street canal bridge as the pair crossed the temporary pedestrian walk.

A serious accident occurred Tuesday afternoon when Carl Wertz, age eight, struck his seven year old brother John in the face with a fork while cleaning straw from the barn floor. A tine pierced near the eye and severed an artery, prompting Dr. Haney to administer surgical aid. John narrowly escaped serious injury. he is reportedly gaining.
Wellington Matz longtime Wooster resident and Wayne county figure died Sunday at 11 45 PM at his daughter Mrs T P Bowman’s home after over a year of illness stomach trouble was the chief ailment He was born August 5 1851 in Berks county Virginia near Reading and was 65 years 11 months and 28 days old A Civil War veteran he belonged to the Knights of Pythias a Democrat and served as Wayne county Democrat solicitor for 20 years Funeral was held Wednesday.
A hay barn in Morgan county Mo burned on Sunday the 27th with spontaneous combustion cited after partially cured clover risk. About 100 men joined to unload and move hay, pump water and spray the structure, saving the barn though one load of hay was lost. Community figures praise the prompt response and report a social note of upcoming concerts and visits in the area.

The Weirich gathering occurred Aug. 2 at John Shorb’s home with many relatives and a large dinner.
