The Dalton Garden Club annual picnic is postponed due to the Vets carnival. A combined Garden Club and Community Club picnic will be held Wednesday July 13 at 6 30 p m in Dalton Park with guests from the Wayne County Children's Home and invites all members and their families to attend.
The W S C S and families hold their annual picnic at Dalton Park on Tuesday evening July 12 at 6 30. Attendees bring own table service and coffee will be furnished.
Ed Gonter and wife return from a month in Los Angeles as Canton Clowns face Nussbaum Builders in a charity softball game set for Saturday night July 16. Sonneberg Mutual Insurance moves its office to the McDowell block. George Washington Gerber and family move near town. he once taught locally in 1901-02 and is noted for bravery in saving a flag.
The Big V F W Carnival runs two nights starting July 7 with Dale Porcher and his orchestra. Outdoor square dancing, country store concessions, and hamburgers are highlighted. Prizes totaling 100000 are promised. Proceeds go to Dalton Post 5534 VFW building fund for a community building.
Thursday morning a son was born to Mr and Mrs Richard Hofstetter of RD 1 Dalton at Massillon city hospital. The Ed D Yoders of Dalton RD 2 welcomed a baby daughter born Saturday in Beeson hospital Wooster.
Dalton 11th Regt. Band members will not play at the VFW carnival but will give a concert Saturday night July 9 1949 at 8 30 oclock conducted by Don Hunsberger.
The mariage of Miss Grace Marie Judd daughter of Mr and Mrs Emanuel Judd RD 2 Navarre to Glenn Robert Fahrni son of Mr and Mrs Nick Fahrni RD 2 Dalton was announced. The service was at St John Evangelical and Reformed church Massillon on Saturday June 18 at 2 pm with Rev O R Gerber officiating.
Miss Norma Jean Pollock daughter of Mr and Mrs William Pollock of North Lawrence and Arltn G Amstutz son of Mr and Mrs Elmer Amstutz near Dalton announce their engagement A Washington high school graduate employed by the Massillon Board of Education and secretary to L P Kemp principal and Arltn Amstutz a Dalton high school alumnus employed by Gerstenslager Wooster plan a September wedding
The Bethany Circle gathered at Mrs. Weimer’s house with Mrs. Alma Williams leading devotions and Mrs. D C Wenger in the chair. A request was made for birthday cards to Mrs. Lulu Hileman at John Young’s rest home Massillon. July 13 details a humorous article read by Mrs. Earl Locke and a piano solo by Mrs C R Goudy.
Mr and Mrs C Kruschenske returned from a visit with Mr and Mrs John Lower in Chippewa Falls Wisconsin.
Census workers from the Canton District Office begin surveying local business establishments as part of the nationwide 1948 census of business. About three million retail wholesale and service trade sites will be counted nationwide. District supervisor Joseph J Baum leads 21 enumerators, with Elam Gerbert named for Wayne county to visit nearby business places.
Help wanted message urges Garden Club ladies to bring their husbands to the park tonight Wednesday to view the shelter fireplace prepared for a picnic awaiting attendees.
Mrs Elsie Stockham 78 widow of the late Rev AFE Stockham died at her son Pauls home East Main street Thursday evening June 30 1949 at 8 15 ten months to the day of her husbands death Survivors include daughter Mrs S C Springer of Kidron two sons Rev Hartley Stockham Benton Mich and Paul A Stockham this place seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at Hampden Geauga Co formerly home of Rev and Mrs Stockham from the Congregational church Rev J J Huetter officiating Burial followed in Hampden cemetery J C Murray funeralist
The Stitch & Chatter 4 H Club gathered at the school on June 30. The group opened with the pledge and motto and answered roll call with their favorite flowers. Popsicles were served by advisers. Rebecca Stockham Ass't Reporter.
Last Friday we had the heaviest rain of the summer. Miss Nancy Warnock is vacationing at Mackinaw City Michigan. Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Sword went to the Sky Line Drive for vacation. Miss Katherine Crosby of Chagrin Falls is visiting with the Floyd Grabers. Walter Feiber and wife of Wooster were Saturday guests of the Wm. Smiths. Mrs. Margaret Slusser is home from a month’s sojourn with relatives in Penna. Record breaking hot weather the past week. The mercury hit 97 last Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Camp are on vacation at Lewisburg Pennsylvania with Mr. and Mrs. Adrian Amstutz. Mr. and Mrs. Simon Gerber are back in Dalton again after spending the winter in Reedley California. Mr. & Mrs. Harmon Wertz and son Kimmie of Cleveland spent the Fourth with D. E. Wertz. Prof and Mrs Ross Wyre and family of Philadelphia visited Dalton relatives over the weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Warren Rudy of Cleveland are spending a few days at their home at Bunker Hill. Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Moser and children took a motor vacation tour through the east and south, including the Sky Line drive. Elmo Hooley, George Falk, Marvin Fischt and Richard Steiner entertained Mr. & Mrs. I. J. Buchwalter with some very fine singing June 30, 1949. Come again.
