The Dalton and Sugar Creek Township schools start Wednesday September 7 with a half day session. A Tuesday September 6 meeting for all teachers at the High School and a 1 PM bus driver meeting are planned. Minor schedule changes include a 840 AM home room and 1250 PM period with 400 PM dismissal.
Village crew starts patching next week on Schultz Ave Cochran St Garfield St and Freet Ave preparing for seal coat and slag chip treatment. Council rejects 50 50 resident cost plan and votes to resurface at village expense. Dalton asked to seek Ohio Public Service opinion on lighting and power improvements for the pumping station with an underground conduit and a new fire proof facility study.
Russell McFarren, 50, of Mt. Eaton area, died instantly when his truck was struck by a Wheeling & Lake Erie freight train at Goudys crossing on the Dalton West Lebanon road. He was en route home from Geiser feed mill. Surviving include his widow Leona, daughter Marlene, and mother Nettie. Funeral set for August 25 at Desvoignes funeral home Mt. Eaton with interment at West Lawn Cemetery.
Two soft ball games of special interest will be played at the local field on the evening of September 7. Further details will be announced next week.
Mr. and Mrs. Russell Johnson, residing southeast of town, left for a band festival Saturday evening. Mrs. Johnson saw a light in an upstairs window and found curtains burning in a bedroom when they returned. Firemen arrived but the blaze was controlled. minor damage reported.
The wedding of Elnore Rosenberger of Quakertown and Burton G. Yost of Lansdale occurred Sunday afternoon at West Swamp Mennonite Church near Quakertown. Rev. Arthur S. Rosenberger officiated with Rev. John J. Plenert assisting. Grace Bauman was maid of honor and Stanley Stauffer best man. The couple, graduates of Bluffton College, were each from Mennonite backgrounds.

Tuz Specht of the Dalton Nussbaum Builders suffered a compound fracture of the collar bone when thrown to the ground in the seventh inning during the Dundee Dalton game. He was rushed to Massillon City Hospital where surgery removed bone fragments.
Claren Sommer of Kidron will give a pipe organ recital at 8 15 p m Sunday night August 28 at the Salem Mennonite Church near Dalton Sommer a Bluffton College graduate studied organ under Prof Otto Holtcamp.
Blanks for N SLI dividend applications will be distributed at Dalton town hall starting Monday Aug 29 at 7 pm and evenings through Friday. The Big C presents a program at Marcia Haney home Aug 31 at 2 pm with 5o admission. A hospital committee treated 200 veterans at Massillon State Hospital. Several locals plan a two week fishing trip to Lake Nipissing Ontario. A band festival and concert drew a large crowd despite cool weather. donors of pies cakes and money are thanked.
