The Office of Price Administration allows a 50 percent inventory rise for coal and wood heating stoves. Batavia dealers Ayer Hardware Co and Wasner Ulrey's expect relief though shortages for medium priced stoves persist in Clermont county. John Friend Sr. dies after short illness in Cincinnati

John Friend Sr. father of County Treasurer John P. Friend and longtime Perintown farmer, died in a Cincinnati hospital after a brief illness. He would have turned 82 on Oct 2. Clermont County must extend the drive to reach the Third War Loan goal. F C Hartsock reports bond sales totaling 1 074 765 dollars about 73 percent of the 1 460 000 quota. Group of youths questioned in gas ration stamp thefts

A group of boys around fifteen faced Sheriff Brooks after complaints from Mil ford and Goshen filling stations about stolen gas coupons. Eight youths were examined and one confessed. Probate Judge Halbisch issued admonitions before their release. Losses included a proprietor reporting 309 gallons.
