Death of Batavia resident Nan Parrott

Nan Dimmitt Parrott died at Christ Hospital after an operation last Wednesday. A lifelong Batavia resident she was held in high esteem. Funeral services were held at her North Street home with Rev. Samuel Huecker officiating. She is survived by son Edmund Parrott, Batavia high school teacher, and daughter Mrs Kenneth Hensley of Huntington W V. She also leaves a sister Mrs S L Larkin.

Williamsburg church fall market and bake sale set for Oct 8

The ladies of Williamsburg Presbyterian will host an annual fall market and bake sale on Saturday October 8 starting at 1 PM on Fuhr's lawn at 2nd and Main street. Lunch will be served at 65 o'clock. Patronize a good cause.

The Ohio Farmers' Union will convene at Memorial Hall in Lima on October 7 and 8 for its third annual gathering. Three sessions daily feature speakers, music, entertainment, a junior contest, and activities for all ages. families and the general public are invited.

The Ladies Aid of Newtonsville M E church sponsors a chicken supper during the monthly council meeting at the I O O F hall on October 9. Owensville church will present the program. Monroe Grange Booster Night occurs at Laurel Community Hall on September 30 at 8 30 p m with State Representative John Hayden as principal speaker. Public invited.

Batavia Scouts Earn Merit Badges At Court of Honor

Two Batavia scouts Tommy Colburn and Roger Budd appeared before the Clermont County Boy Scout Court of Honor last Wednesday night and each passed three merit badges. The court was led by Clermont Scout Commissioner John Friend and included Judge Charles G. White Attorney Forest E. Ely and Batavia school superintendent P. K. Moore.

Annexation Approved by County Board

The County Commissioners approved the petition to annex certain territory to the village of Amelia. Attorney Forrest E. Ely represented the village before the board in the annexation matter.

Cler mont County High School Adopts Round Robin Basketball Schedule

Cler mont County will use a county round robin for boys and girls with nine league games counting toward standings plus additional non league games. Ohio State Home Games To Be Broadcast On WOSU

Ohio State will air all five home games on university station WOSU. The station begins at 1 45 p m each Saturday. Three away games are also planned Northwestern October 17 Notre Dame October 31 and Illinois November 1.

Pt Pleasant to re dedicate Grant cabin Sunday

The village of Pt Pleasant, birthplace of U S Grant, will re open the original Grant cabin Sunday at 2 p m after 51 years away, 31 of which were at the Ohio State Fairgrounds in Columbus. The ceremony is led by Judge H L Nichols with speakers Myers Y Cooper John Hayden State Senator Harold Nichols and State Historical Society representatives. C H W Ruhe, newly elected National Commander of the G A R, will attend at 88 years old and mark his first official duty since taking command last Saturday.

County Students Attend Ohio State Game On Saturday

About 60 Batavia high school students from Clermont County will join roughly 35 000 Ohio high school attendees for a football game between Ohio State and New York University. Open house tours and a swimming demonstration at 11 30 a.m. are planned with supervision by Mr Rockwell Mr Morrison and teachers. New Richmond will send about 50 students with Mr Frey Miss Rogers and Supt Thompson as chaperones.

Highland county board orders muzzles for all dogs

The county board of health issues new orders requiring all dogs in Highland county to be muzzled or leashed. The rule is in effect until December 81 and follows a recent mad dog scare that led to quarantine in Hillsboro and two surrounding townships.

Ohio Extends Driver License Deadline to November 1

State Registrar Frank West announced a 30 day extension to the new driver license law effective October 1 1936. No arrests will be made for lacking licenses until November 1 with a correction and instruction approach rather than prosecution. Ohio residents visiting other states will not be arrested until November 16 for missing Ohio licenses.

Fire threat in Batavia endangers multiple buildings

Sunday around 5 pm a fire started in the alley behind the I O O F ware room and Ayer Hardware. Crates, straw, and excelsior fueled flames that could have reached the Odd Fellows building, Golden Glow, Rice's pool room, Kramer's bakery and residence, and Kroger grocery if not quickly controlled. Fire was stopped after removing material and using Kramer bakery water. Citizens warn against storing flammables in alleys and children handling matches.

Home Coming at United Brethren Church

Sunday October 4 will be rally day and homecoming at the United Brethren church. Former members and friends are urged to attend with Sunday school at 9 30 preaching at 10 30 and a basket dinner at noon. A brief program will follow and renewing of old friendships is expected. United States Secretary Henry A Wallace will speak at the National Grange convention in Columbus November 11 to 19 with about 15000 attendees from 36 Grange units.
