Cancer Society Elects President

Fred F. Stapf has been elected president of the reactivated Clermont County Unit of the American Cancer Society Ohio Division. The unit will continue its service program with a public education phase to raise cancer awareness and promote regular examinations. Medical advisers are Dr. Richard N Carr and Dr. Avin Friedman. Mrs. Richard D Carr assists. other officers include Mrs. Romaine Wingo and Mrs. Flora Ruffner. Stapf leads Clermont Industries in Williamsburg with wife and two children.

Chest Clinic Board Abandons Tax Suit

Clermont County Chest Clinic trustees announced they will not pursue a taxpayer's suit to challenge the exclusion of the clinic from TB tax levy support. After talks with county officials and health groups, they determined the TB levy funds plus a $12,000 general fund allocation should cover indigent TB hospitalization and allow maintenance of the clinic through the rest of this year and likely 1962.

Well Known Teacher and Coach Dies at 44

Ernie M. Havrilla 44 of Owensville died Wednesday at Christ Hospital after a week with pneumonia and a heart attack. History and government teacher in Batavia schools for 15 years, he was a former coach and highly regarded. Survived by wife two daughters and a son. Arrangements by Craver Funeral Home Milford.

Saddle Club Donates Profits To Clermont County Home

At a Sept 14 meeting Clermont County Western Saddle Club presented a donation of 483.13 to Carroll Gregg superintendent of the Clermont County Home. The gift came from the Sep 3 county home horse show profits made in cooperation with county commissioners and supports residents with equipment and comforts.

Commissioners Order Telephones Removed to Cut Costs

The commission voted to remove two office telephones and one in the planning office as an economy measure. They approved extending a telephone in the TB nurses office to the health department so staff can receive TB nurse calls when she is out.

Funds Allocated for Cattle TB Testing in Clermont County

Clermont County budget officials approved 2100 dollars to cover bovine tuberculosis tests for beef and dairy cattle for the remainder of the year. Auditor J F Paschal said the funds come from a larger than expected local government distribution, removing any quarantine threat.

1961-62 United Appeal reports show Dieter Trifilio of Batavia earns Area C laurel for top percentage while Clermont Division leads in district progress. Campaign aims for 6,907,812 to support 126 agencies with early pledges totaling 2,746,700. Division C posts 69.4 percent of its 1,611,400 goal.

Clermont County Holds First All Day Band Festival

Owensville invites the public to Clermont Band Day at the Clermont County Fair grounds on Saturday September 30. Bands compete in entrance marching unit show routine and twirling for trophies with field show and evening concert numbers judged and prizes awarded. Five Injured As Auto Clins Pole Near Perintown

Five Cincinnatians were injured early Monday when their car left Rt. 50 and struck a utility pole near Perintown. Newtonsville and North Union life squads freed the victims after about 90 minutes. West Clermont voters defeat eight mill school levy

In a special election voters rejected an eight mill levy for West Clermont schools 996 for 1544 against 528 short of the 60 percent needed. The levy to restore funds and raise teacher pay will return at the November general election with a simple majority rule.

Readers aided The Courier in locating the heirs of Henry C. Renner after a policy with Manhattan Life was issued in 1899. Heirs include Mrs. Ruby Yeomans and sisters Mable Roudebush Hazel Watkins Doris Blundell and cousin Robert A Renner. Henry C Renner died in 1948 at the Masonic Home in Springfield.

Pastor Rejected Again as County Caseworker

The Rev. James W. Sheckler of Batavia Church of the Nazarene was twice turned down for a county welfare Caseworker post. Welfare Advisory Board members recommended him over two other applicants, Mrs Dorothy Clark and Collard Deel. Board chairman Robert Crowe led the slate, while commissioners debated and did not second the motion at the meetings.
