United Appeal Expands to Five Counties in 1957 Campaign

The United Appeal starts Monday October 1 covering Clermont Boone Campbell Hamilton and Kenton counties. The five county goal is 5 077 266 with a kick off at 12 15 p m in the Hall of Mirrors at the Netherland Hilton T Spencer Shore president of Eagle Picher Co will preside a dramatic presentation shows who benefits from the drive.

County schools gain phone equipment after principals meeting

A Cincinnati and Suburban Bell Telephone demonstration led to equipment for Clermont County schools. Ex tension courses from Miami University will be offered in Bethel, Milford and Goshen. A county fair display is planned with teacher volunteers. OEA members gain free athletic admission. student tickets cost 50 cents in advance and 74 cents at games.

Baron Boosters Elect Officers at Amelia Meeting

Amelia The Baron Boosters Club met and elected officers James R. Davis as president Floyd Rath vice president Al Anderson secretary Tom Ellis treasurer. The group completed two more light poles at Stanley Anstaett Field under Willene Turner. A membership drive is under way with plans for future athletic program support.

Huntington man arrested after Cincinnati crash incident

Carl Williams age 47 of Huntington West Virginia was arrested by Pierce Patrolman Elbert Dittman on U S 52 near New Richmond after failing to stop following a crash on Freeman Avenue in Cincinnati on Sunday night.

Post Office Up For Auction In Milford New Quarters Sought

Congressman James G. Polk says Milford can expect newer post office facilities. The lease ends June 30 1956 and bids will be invited for a new quarters site at Main and Water Streets. Public auction set for October 16 with prior inspection October 15. Postal Inspector Verkamp to explain terms.

New Richmond Men Injured In Batavia Car Crash

William Hurtt 22 of New Richmond lost control of a car one mile south of Batavia on Davis Pike injuring himself and passenger Samuel Burgess 31 of Laurel. Hurtt faces DUI charges while Burgess was fined for public intoxication and the pair were treated at Our Lady of Mercy Hospital.

Halbisch the Historian Writes His Own Obituary

Frederick and Christina Halbisch, early German settlers, raised a son Christian Harry in Clermont County. Harry Halbisch became a Chicago meat inspector, then a longtime health official, later a noted Clermont County historian and Courier writer. He died at 73 in Evanston Illinois after a heart attack, leaving a legacy of local history, poetry, and fossil collecting.

Clermont County Cuts Library and Health Board Budgets

The Clermont County Budget Commission reduced the 1957 health budget from 43 438.80 to 37 770 and denied increases for the health commissioner and staff. The library budget was set at 33 878 from intangibles and surplus, with no provision for a new assistant librarian, leaving the library short by about 52. The boards may appeal to the Board of Tax Appeals.
