Two weeks ago taxpayers were urged to review the infirmary farm at Clermont County with its crop of weeds and prompt cutting. The Clinton county report records one hundred one hogs sold for 2040.75 and eighty five hogs remaining to be fattened for winter market.
New Richmont Ohio September 18 1911 An all-day outdoor meeting of the Clermont County Fruit Growers Association at J H Dawson’s orchard Hamlet drew strong attendance despite weather Edward Rowan of the OSA Agricultural Extension Department demonstrated apple packing in boxes stressing higher quality in boxes over barrels and urged press packing for box stored fruit The standard box size and other packing details were discussed by President J C Henderson A focus on spraying methods and tool designs followed with guidance on pickers bags ladders and mulching debated A unanimous resolution set minimum price per bushel for Ben Davis apples at the orchard and in piles at $2 No 1 grade Others priced higher Those present represented over 6000 barrels of sprayed apples out of 15000 controlled by the association.
William Girdon, a harness maker and cobbler, opens a general repair shop on Wood Street occupying the L Deitz property at Main and Market in Danberry. He is also a musician who will assist the Batavia band on the tuba.
A Olive Branch fortieth wedding anniversary event on September 17 1911 brought together Mr and Mrs W O Malott their children and many relatives from Newtonsville Hamilton Cincinnati and Olive Branch. A parlor gift a long dinner under maples and a reading by Mrs John Lutes followed a family photo and songs Home Sweet Home and a Glimpse of the Past framed the afternoon. Several attendees shared kind words and wishes for many happy returns and Mrs Ella Lane visited from Hamilton.
The Batavia lodge marked the 42nd anniversary of the order in Ohio with a social evening last Thursday. Members contributed a lunch, enjoyed solos and talks, and a fine program, with plans to celebrate both anniversaries on October 31. Full attendance expected for the event.
Mrs. Allen Glancy sold the old stone building once used for the M. E. church now serving as the O. N. G. armory to H. L. Nichols. It will be razed to make way for an up-to-date residence with grand view and excellent drainage in a good town location. Batavia plans substantial ornamental improvements.
The Bell Telephone Co. employs about fifteen men to lay cable in town streets. They claim the 640 strands of wire can serve 320 phones, enough for a town of 10,000. The note warns against hasty growth and urges patience as the town develops.
Isaac Turner a prominent Clermont county businessman and longtime county fair board member died at his Perintown home Thursday at 8 a m after months of ill health. He was 70 and left a widow and one brother. Funeral held at Perintown M E church last Saturday. interment in Milford.
The Cincinnati Oil Works Co, an independent entrant to the Milford market, will soon operate from a Milford branch. Three tanks with 20 000 plus gallons capacity have been erected, painting and piping finished, with filling under way. Activation is expected by October 1 or earlier, promising lower oil and gasoline prices through competition.
An entertaining program by the Forest Hill school children under Miss Hazel Ulrey drew visitors from Batavia Bantam Lucy Run Mt Holly and Withamaville. Proceeds will fund a library and other needs.
Jessee Elis Post members are urged to attend roll call at 2 p m next Saturday at the Odd Fellows Hall. Commander E Burdsall directs the gathering.

Corner-stone laying for Williamsburg New First Presbyterian church postponed from September 17 to October 1, 1911 at 2 30 p m. Batavia baseball club went to Milford with about fifty Batavians watching a hot game. Gatch’s three-run homer in center-left field highlighted a fourth inning notable. If the fifth inning were cut, the game would have been more even as both teams relied on imported players from Queen City and Spaulding leagues. Milford plans another home game Saturday.
A Cincinnati & Eastern Interurban car barn near Coney Island burned last Friday, destroying 15 cars and four remaining in service. Loss pegged at about 125000, largely insured. No lives were reported. the blaze began small and grew into a major fire. Nearby C. G. & P. system had a recent similar loss of rolling stock.

On Saturday September 23 1911 at 9 45 a m Mr Benson C Epple and Miss Edna M Taylor of Locust Corner were married by Rev E Burdsall at the M E parsonage Batavia with Miss Florence Behymer Nine Mile and Miss Pearl Taylor bride’s sister as attendants. A second ceremony joined John W Beach Felicity and Miss Carrie Swing Bethel. The couples dined at S Nelton’s Corner and Clermont Hotel and later returned for a Bethel home reception.
