Monroe Township farmer killed by falling truck bed

William E. Harvey 51, Monroe township AAA chairman and local farmer near Nicholsville, was killed when a loaded lime truck's bed fell as he checked a jam. Funeral set at Spring Grove Methodist Church Thursday at 2 PM, with interment Bethel cemetery. He leaves a widow, three sons, his mother, and a brother.

Alligator Shot Near Perintown Bridge

George Reeves and Edgar Anstaett report a 4 foot alligator found and killed Thursday evening in East Fork near Perintown bridge. Reeves spied the reptile emerging from the water and, with Whitehead, killed it with a shotgun. Reeves skinned the animal and plans to exhibit the hide and head.

Dayton youths arrested in Bethel for car theft

Two Dayton youths identified as James Wagner aged 18 and Robert David Moore aged 19 were turned over to parole authorities after State Highway Patrols tied them to stealing a 1940 Chevrolet in Dayton. They traveled through Cincinnati to Kentucky, returning via Augusta and Bethel, where they attempted further burglaries. They were captured after Lipps warned them off and the car was recovered.

Batavia Lodge to honor 50-year member Ely at 7:30pm

Batavia Lodge No. 104 F and A M will host a special reception in the lodge room on Wednesday September 25 at 7 30 pm honoring Ewin C Ely Batavia attorney for completing 50 years of membership. Ely hails from Clermont county’s oldest families with ancestral ties to Batavia’s early surveying. His son Forrest E Ely, also a Batavia attorney, served Clermont county as prosecuting attorney for three terms. The new Cafe at Main and Water streets opens for business.

X Ray Service Expands Tuberculosis Care in Clermont County

Clermont County Board of Health reports at least 64 X rays taken since July after installing courthouse equipment. Dr J A Carter Health Commissioner notes 36 read by Dr Heusinkveld and local physicians receive up to date reports on TB patients. Diagnosis and treatment progress marks a major, cheaper advance for the county.

Chicken Dinner at Summerside Church Event

Summerside Church announces a chicken dinner as part of a newly organized Society of Christian Service event. The dinner, with an agricultural display and sales of vegetables, fruits, jams, and jellies, will be held Friday evening September 26 at 6 68 P.M. Robert E. Channell of Clermont, Ohio, promoted to corporal in the United Army Air Corps. He serves with the 28th Composite GHQ Air Force at Mavely Field, California, and began enlistment in Chanute Field on May 25, 1939.

Two men taken to Ohio Penitentiary after conviction

Ambrose Johnson 22 of Batavia and Roy Scott 31 formerly of Clermont now in Cincinnati were sent to Columbus penitentiary Tuesday. Johnson convicted of breaking and entering the home of Mrs. Sallie Keen and assaulting her. sentenced to life. Scott convicted of cutting with intent to kill after an attack on his former wife. sentence 1 to 20 years.

Friday October 18 is Ohio Poetry Day by legislative act to promote study and observance of poetry in state public schools. Monterey farmer buys Guernsey herd

E. J. Hadley of Monterey has purchased the entire Guernsey herd and bull from Jos. Norther of Milford. Norther, a veteran dairy man, specialized in registered Guernseys for twenty years and is retiring due to ill health. Hadley, with fifteen years at Cincinnati Gas and Electric Co, farms on the Newtonsville Monterey Road and acquired fifteen cows and a bull.

Veterans to Meet in Batavia Armory on October First

Clermont County War Veterans from 1917 18 are called to assemble at the Batavia Armory at 8:00 P M October 1 to plan a Clermont County Emergency Unit named Clermont County Veterans Defense Unit to aid in disasters or emergencies.
