The 1960 Clermont County population rose to 80,156, a 90 percent gain from 42,182 in 1950. Miami Township leads with 16,934 residents, Union Township at 15,148 shows the largest township growth, and Batavia, Tale, Goshen, Pierce, Ohio, Williamsburg, Stonelick, Monroe, Franklin, Wayne, Washington, and Jackson townships report substantial gains with multiple communities listed.
The name Little Ran was selected as the pony name for 11 year old DiAnne Lindower, a Williamsburg student. From 500 submissions, five final choices were narrowed to Little Ran as the most appealing entry. Lindower, from an 80 acre farm, will be guest of honor at a Batavia Business Men's Association dinner on Sept 22 where the pony is presented.

Mrs Ray Canter of Batavia was elected president of the Clermont County Women s Christian Temperance Union at the county meeting held Thursday at the EUB Church in Batavia. New officers include Mrs Norma Schoeffler Branch Hill vice president Mrs W N McGraw Mt Carmel recording secretary and Mrs Maud Conner Bethel treasurer. The group recently purchased an educational firm and presented it to the Audio Visual Aid Department for county schools. Frysinger Construction Co Columbus began work on Hulick Hill in West Batavia after a slide earlier this year closed a road by the Robert Slade property.
Goshen Methodist Church welcomes public school teachers, board members, and church families to a supper on Wednesday September 28 at 6 30 p m. The event aims to help the church and school get to know each other better and honor teachers in youth training.
The District Court of Ap Ps will rule on whether Loveland Board of Education can enforce its rule barring married students. Rufus Wilder, father of Donna Alt, seeks an order to admit her to Loveland High. Alt, 17, recently married Pfc. Ted Alt, 21, stationed in France. she remains with her parents to graduate. The board asserts no personal animus and notes the girl has a good record, arguing only the authority to deny enrollment due to marriage.
County officials relocate during courthouse expansion causing disruption. The county commissioners moved weeks ago to the courthouse annex. County Engineer Carl Rush shifts from the second floor to the Highway Department on county home property. A E Suro executive director of the Planning Commission moves from basement to the old Courier Building on Market Street.
Elmer L. Strammer, 36, died Tuesday of carbon monoxide poisoning in his car parked in the Buckwheat Road garage. A high mass for the deceased was held Friday at Holy Name Church by Father Gruber. Survived by widow Jean and children Lexie John Dan Jimmy and David. Funeral arrangements by Frank T. Corken Funeral Home Cincinnati.
Cincinnati Gas & Electric completes two 400 foot river crossings on the $250,000 gas line to Terrace Park and Milford. Construction crews continue laying the line in Roundbottom Road and Terrace Park as work wraps up in Milford.
Division Engineer Unger reports that bids for widening and resurfacing Rt 74 west of Williamsburg will be opened Sept 27 with a completion deadline of Nov 30. Preliminary work on Rt 28 from Milford to Blanchester is underway and may require major improvements beyond widening. Aerial surveys will speed planning, but time constraints threaten placing the project in a year-end contract sale.
