Karen Lee Aicholtz 17, Newtown senior, won the 175th Anniversary Beauty Pageant title “Queen of the 175th Crown” at Newtown School. Michael Arnold of the Greater New Town Civic League presented awards as Mike Cunningham led Karen through throngs of well wishers. Contestants wore four outfits and were scored 1 to 10 by judges.

Building Permits Do Well in August
County Building Inspector Alfred Ginn issued 45 permits for new buildings in August, up from 40 in July, with an estimated construction cost of 455 150. The department collected 704 in permit sales and 162 in licenses. Certificates of occupancy totaled 23 versus 17 prior month.
