Batavia Installs Five Cent Penalty Meters For Overdue Parking
Batavia's new parking meters began operation Tuesday morning. Parallel parking lanes are marked and a five cent penalty meter stands before the municipal building for over time violations. Mules Shot Near Milford. Sheriff Probes Motive

Polk Protests State Plan to Close Clermont Farm

Service Station Raided on Route 52 Near Nine Mile
Thieves entered a service station on Route 52 near Nine Mile over the weekend and stole an automobile battery and 11 tires. Sheriff Clyde Dericks said footprints to the river suggest a boat getaway. A brace and bit were used to bore holes and remove siding boards.

Truck Passenger Breaks Rib In Highway Mishap
Albert Anstaett of State Route 276 suffered a broken rib when a truck with him as passenger skidded on wet pavement near Olive Branch and plunged 15 feet down a bank. Driver A E Snider and other passenger Charles Hutchinson, both of Williamsburg, were uninjured. The truck belonged to Frank Reed of Williamsburg.

Lightning Kills Canton Man Under Tree During Hunting Trip
Everett Harland, 50, of Canton, was killed by lightning while sheltering under a tree during a hunting party near Loveland. His companion Joseph Helton, 48, also Canton, reported the strike on Lynn Christian farm as they hunted squirrels.

Torch Causes Auto Fire Near Batavia on Route 74
An automobile driven by Harold Ballein of Mt. Crab was destroyed by a fire on Route 74 near Batavia Monday night. The blaze started when a passenger used a lighted newspaper for light while changing a flat tire. Batavia Fire Department arrived shortly after 11 p.m. but could not prevent major damage as the fire spread quickly. About $30 in change in the back seat was consumed.

Newtonsville Man Fatally Injured In Car Accident
Walter E. White, 67, Newtonsville farmer, died after his car was sideswiped on Route 133 near Blanchester. He had stopped to inspect faulty lights and was about to reenter when struck. Harvey L. Martin of Blanchester drove the other vehicle. White’s wife was in the car. He was a former Cincinnati police lieutenant’s son and a member of Edenton Lodge 332 F and A M. Funeral services were held at Monroe Funeral Home. Burial in Newtonsville Cemetery. Survived by wife Ethel Swartz White, two sons Robert W. White of Morrow and William White, a daughter Mrs. Sarah Spronk of Sayler Park, and three grandchildren.
