Gratitude Car Exhibition Returns to Batavia Streets
The French Gratitude box car will be on view at Main and Third Streets Batavia next Monday September 18 from noon to 10 p m. Over 100 000 Ohioans have visited since June kickoff. Gifts from French citizens will be shown inside lighted cases and later distributed to Ohio museums. The car honors the Friendship Train aid and wars, with items donated by French people and several artifacts including clothes dolls books posters medals and more. The exhibit is run by the Adjutant General the Department of Highways and the Ohio State Archaeological and Historical Society.

Newtonsville resident Arthur E. Nischkitz 63 died after a tractor ran off a field bank on his farm. He worked alone and the exact cause is unknown. Coroner F. S. Skeen and Sheriff Clyde B. Dericks responded. Funeral services were held at Monroe Funeral Home Milford and burial followed in Greenlawn Cemetery. He leaves wife Mildred Leming Nischwitz a son Ronald W. Nash and two stepsons Gilbert Gordon Allen. Another son Reynolds Nash was killed in the South Pacific in the last war.

Four Injured In Milford Auto Crash
One person was seriously injured and three received minor injuries in an accident on Main Street near Maple Street Milford early Saturday. Austin L. West 25 his wife Lillian 20 and two children were in the car hit by a westbound vehicle driven by Marvin Prigge 27 of Lewiston Minnesota. Mrs West had head and leg injuries and was taken to Our Lady of Mercy Hospital. The West children and Mr West had minor injuries. Prigge was cited for reckless driving.

Batavians to Hold Open House for 25th Anniversary
Batavia residents Mr. and Mrs William Stirling Moore celebrate twenty fifth wedding anniversary with an open house for friends on Tuesday September 19 from two to five in the afternoon and from eight in the evening. The 6th polio victim is 10 year old Charles Schleyer of Milford. He was hospitalized at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati shortly before midnight Monday. Other victims include Leonard Holt of New Richmond Charles Cogswell of Cherry Grove and Anna McCann mother of two.

Auto Destroyed In Gasoline Fire In Newtonsville
A car owned by Forrest Werner of Newtonsville burned Saturday afternoon after gasoline spilled from a can and splashed the tail pipe as the engine ran. A small puppy inside the auto was burned to death. the motor and two front tires survived. Fire Chief Jack Dexter said the vehicle was on Werner’s Pleasant Plain Road farm when the accident occurred while Werner’s sons and a neighbor boy were working.
