Clermont County Delegation Heads Large GOP Platform Meeting

The Clermont county delegation led the 6th district at the Republican Platform Convention in Columbus with over thirty members. They enjoyed prime seating among about 5,000 Ohio Republicans as plans were drawn. A delegation member asked how seating was allocated, citing Hayden present during the seating plans.

Bond Elections Set Across Districts Next Week

Loveland Village School District voters approved an $88,000 bond to be matched by a $72,000 federal grant for building additions and an athletic field. tax impact about 26 mills. Three other districts vote Sept 27 and 30 on bonds ranging from 20 to 25 years with federal grants totaling about $32,727 to $38,868 for new schools and facilities. Additional levies and bonds for Nov 8 include New Townsville, Jackson Township, Felicity Franklin, Batavia, Neville, New Richmond, and Moscow districts with varied millage and purposes.

Red Cross Disaster Prevention Talk At County Court

Maurice Reddy spoke to Red Cross supporters in the Conference Room at the Court House on disaster prevention. Judge Hugh L. Nichols introduced him and praised Clermont County Red Cross procedures. He noted funds from 1987 flood aided relief and urged participation in the upcoming Red Cross Roll Call Drive starting November 1 to keep Clermont at the top in county size.

Two Prisoners Nearly Escape From Clermont Jail

Lonnie and Clifford Burton, both convicted last week, nearly escaped from the Clermont county jail after a hacksaw blade was found in a window bars. Deputies acted on a tip, found two bars sawed through, and seized a hacksaw and blades hidden with soap. The escape attempt stalled when inmates warned sheriffs outside. The Burtons and Ada Simpson McGill were linked to a prior theft at the L B Nobis home on the twelve mile road. Sentences ranged from one to seven years for housebreaking and grand larceny. McGill was sent to the Marysville Reformatory.

Clermont County Board Approves Local Option Petitions

At a Thursday night meeting in the Court House the Clermont County Board of Elections approved petitions for local option elections from seven townships and municipalities. Petitions accepted include Monroe township on Beer Amelia Corporation on both Beer and Hard Liquors Goshen township Williamsburg Corporation and Williamsburg township Felicity corporation Franklin township for Hard Liquor only.
