A panel of seventy five jurymen is drawn from the wheel for Scott Workman charged with the first degree murder of his wife. The case proceeds as the trial moves toward selection of jurors.

North Monroe Welfare Association Basket Picnic Date Set

The annual basket picnic for the North Monroe Township Welfare Association is scheduled for Sunday September 19 at the Fair Oak School Lawn with members, friends and the public invited. The association also holds its regular monthly meeting on Friday September 24 with several important community reports to be read.

Walker Family Reunion Draws Wide Circle in Williamsburg Park

The Walker reunion on September 11 at Williamsburg school park featured a family tree display by 8.8. Walker, letters from relatives in Colorado Nebraska Kentucky Wilmington and Toledo read aloud. Officers reinstalled were B S Walker president Helen Walker secretary Mary Walker assistant secretary Iris Walker treasurer. Next year’s gathering will be the last Saturday in June at the same park with many members listed as attendees.

Ballots in November 2 Elections Include State District County

Voters casting ballots on November 2 will receive at least three ballots, one merging State District and County, a second for Judicial matters, and a third on Amendments with yes or no. Some areas may add a school levy ballot making four. Election workers will be busy on election day.

Rabid Batavia Dog Killed After Attacking Youth

A collie in Batavia with Hamilton County license No 1989 attacked several residents including 14 year old Burton Richards. The dog was shot after a rabies diagnosis. Health officials ordered all bitten dogs killed or confined and the state serum was requested for the boy’s treatment.

Village and County Time Change Adopted and Accepted

Last week the Village Council passed a resolution adopting last time with effect Sunday night. Citizens will comply as schools begin at 9 and banks open later. The council split vote half until the mayor cast the deciding vote making it unanimous. County commissioners later adopted fast time for county buildings and officials.

Batavia School Opens With Large Attendance

The Batavia school opened Monday morning with a large enrollment and all teachers present for the grand opening. The rule adopted town wide moves start time to 9 o’clock from 8 30 and the staff is reduced by two, with pupils reassigned to other rooms to keep operations smooth.

Local Property Trades Shake East End Neighborhood

Jess Anderson bought Walter Smith’s Knauer avenue property and plans improvements. Bob Foster acquires the Otto Wilke residence on Broadway and will move in October 1 with his family. Otto Wilke buys the vacant lot off the Woodlief property and will build a seven room bungalow with bath. He will occupy the Woodlief home for now. Dan and Barney Hillen own the Wallace Carroll property on Broadway and Rollin Stepp family will occupy it after their trade. Albert Elion sold his property to Joe McLean for a confectionery business, later trading with Mr Cropper of Amelia for McLean’s property.

Farm Notes on Clermont County Orchard Tour

The Clermont County Fruit Growers Association led by J. M. Heil studied apple orchard care during an annual tour. They reviewed scale control, rot, aphid injury and mice damage, noting good but not perfect control given a late season. They described dormant through July sprays, using Sunoco oil, lime-sulphur and arsenite formulations with nicotine sulfate for aphids, plus fertility varieties and orchard counts.

Boys and Girls Club Achievement Program At Mt Carmel

The Boys and Girls Club hosts a two hour program on Saturday September 18 at 8 p m at Mt Carmel Grange Hall. Mrs Ed Shimler and Wm Mier lead the event showcasing results of club work and inviting community support for the youths future.

Bank Names New Assistant Cashier Huntington

At a Batavia First National Bank directors meeting last Friday John B. Huntington was chosen for the position and will start about October 1. He previously served as County Recorder and deputy, is a former Amelia resident, and currently pastors in Cleveland, Ohio. He succeeds the late E. K Parrott and is regarded as popular and trusted.

Marysville Woman Sentenced In Moon Case At Reform Farm

To Marysville, Bess Roos, 27, of Teal town, was taken to the Marysville Reform Farm after sentencing at H. H. Hill's Milford liquor court last week. She admitted guilt and left her husband to tend the farm. Deputy Sheriff Dawson escorted her, with his wife nearby.

Batavia Wins In Tight Batavia New Richmond Tilt

Batavia defeated New Richmond 6 to 6 in a Sunday matchup at New Richmond with both sides totaling 10 hits. Andres led Batavia with a triple and two singles, Dial posted a double and two singles. Georgetown-Ripley routed Georgetown 10 to 1 while Harmony Club beat Higginsport 8 to 7. Coca Cola beat Fayetteville 14 to 2. Georgetown meets New Richmond next Sunday. Able Instructor to Lead Orlando Elementary Schools

Miss Susanne Koehler former County Normal Instructor will be Supervisor of Elementary Schools in Orlando Florida for the coming year. She will oversee nine schools and sixty nine teachers. Koehler has studied supervision at Ohio State University for two summers and graduated with highest honors. Her Batavia classwork in Clermont county schools exposed young teachers to modern teaching methods.

Miss Stella Steelman of Amelia married Orris Brooks of Tabasco with sister Ruth Steelman and Virgil Wilfert attending. Rev Hahn officiated. Costly Hunting Leads to Fines in Monroe Township

John Garrison and Robi Boyd of Monroe township were arrested Saturday by Game Warden Frank Stagg with officers Orie Malott and Marshall Krantz. They pled guilty to hunting squirrel out of season without a license. fines and costs totaled 78.40 each. Guns confiscated and to be sent to Columbus for disposal. Squirrels are reported scarce.
