Murderer in Clermont County Confined: Three First Degree Cases
John Weber of Nine Mile, after days of drinking, killed his eight month old daughter and wounded his wife with a shotgun at the Geo Carver farm. Neighbors rescued the wife who later received care at Cincinnati Good Samaritan hospital. Weber confessed to authorities and is jailed in Batavia on first degree murder charges. A special grand jury was convened awaiting trial. The baby rests at Moore funeral home in Batavia.

The Burdsall Chapel M E Church held its largest anniversary gathering with about 800 attendees on August 29 1926. Music by Marathon Community Band opened the morning and Rev Brown Rev Bingaman delivered 15 minute talks. The afternoon featured readings by Clarence Curry and Henry Rockel discussing family life and religion with a debate on origins versus biblical creation. The crowd enjoyed a cafeteria style noon meal and voted to return the next year on August 28 1927.

Bank President Plunges Into Abandoned Well
W. Staats president of the Moscow National Bank, 72, fell into an abandoned well while obtaining peaches for a friend. Rescued after six hours, he remained conscious at first but later collapsed. The well held four feet of mud and water. Staats dodged unconsciousness as cold and exposure loomed. His wife alerted the search, and the incident was a near watery grave.

Second Offense Arrests Shake Milford Liquor Case
William H. Barker of Afton, arrested by State Prohibition Officer Geo Riley and Milford officers for possession and selling liquor, the second arrest within 18 months. Seven pints seized. Barker fought as the arrest began and dropped his revolver. He posted $2000 bond for Tuesday’s appearance before Mayor H H Hill Milford. Howard Henderson of Batavia faced a Monday charge for home brew possession and received a light fine.

Sewer Burst Weakens Road Near Presbyterian Church

Monument Shop Changes Hands in Georgetown
Last week William P. Rush sold the monumental shop in town. The Georgetown Marble and Granite Co. of Georgetown becomes the new owner and J M Cropper, formerly a salesman for the firm, will move to Bata via to head the local shop. The Georgetown company runs a granite cutting plant and handles wholesale and retail monumental work and is praised by local customers.

Thieves Target Chicken Raisers on Woodville Pike
On the Woodville pike and in Miami township chicken thieves struck Emma Leming’s home. Chas Goodman confronted them with a revolver, a gun battle followed, no injuries, four sacks of poultry were dropped, the thieves retreated in a waiting car. The area is noted for recurring poultry thefts.
