Suspect Surrenders After Fatal Shooting in Afton

Afton man who shot and killed his father, Frank Lieberman, on August 18 surrendered to Sheriff Gus Lieberman after fleeing. He says he did not know of the death upon returning home and claims to have worked in Cleveland and Penn during his absence. A special grand jury will hear this and the Hargott case next Monday. Two first degree murderers are held in Batavia jail.

Hargott Captured After Batavia Auto Theft Charge

Sheriff Rapp and a posse surrounded the Hargott home near Nicholsville and arrested John Hargott, brother of Elmer, who escaped from Batavia jail a week ago. He confessed to operating stolen autos between Detroit and Cincinnati and will face the grand jury in October. El Hargott remains at large on related charges.

Batavia Arrest After Chasing Suspected Drinker

Charles A. Click, farmer, was captured by Mayor Ross with a quart of whiskey in his possession near the M. E. church. He confessed before Judge Joseph, pled guilty, and was fined 500 dollars plus costs and sent to the Dayton workhouse until payment.
