The annual report of the County Infirmary Directors for the year ending September 1 1911 was filed September 6 and reviewed by the county commissioners. Citizens harshly criticize the accounting citing unclear expense allocations and missing farm stock details while noting a $1,684.79 discrepancy between reported and certified expenditures and questioning the secretary’s signatures.
J O Matthews of the Magruder farm southwest of Xenia harvested August 20 four acres of Hungarian grass yielding eight tons of hay. The crop sold in Xenia for 18 dollars per ton, seed cost four bushels at two dollars per bushel, yielding a profit of 136 dollars for the sixty day crop. Matthews had no prior Hungarian grass experiments and this crop was likely unique in the area this year.

R J Diegle sergeant at arms of the Ohio Senate received a three year sentence in the Ohio State Penitentiary for aiding Senator L R Andrews of Ironton to solicit a $200 bribe. Prof Louis K Oppitz formerly of Batavia schools and Lebanon University resigned last week to attend the University of Michigan Ann Arbor to study Physics Mathematics and Physical Chemistry for the Doctor of Philosophy degree He leaves September 28 and the Courier offers best wishes.
The Ballon Association will conduct its annual gathering at the Mt. Carmel Universalist church starting Friday evening September 22 for two days. Basket dinners and suppers will be served at Grange Hall during the meeting.
H A Moore undertaker improves his Spring street site by removing the board floor from the wood working room, replacing it with cement, and converting the space into a carriage room. The upstairs will hold coffins and supplies, with trimming in the room behind the office.
