Johnson Manning to Stand Trial in Four Indictments

Disposition of four indictments in Common Pleas Court revealed this week. Ambrose Johnson, 22, Batavia, indicted for attempted burglary of a dwelling, pled not guilty and will stand trial Sept. 18. Eugene Manning, Moscow, indicted for cutting with intent to kill or wound, pled not guilty. trial set for Sept. 23. Roy Scott, 610 Lockstreet, Cincinnati, indicted on a cutting charge, to be tried Wednesday. Marie Stevenson, gypsy fortune teller, indicted for grand larceny, will be tried Sept. 27. McDonald and Cannon, Cincinnati, pled guilty to charges of securing money under false pretenses, with sentences suspended. Weather trimmed attendance at the State Fair to 229,451 paid admissions, gate receipts $92,352.81.

Batavia Main Street Project Nears Completion This Week

The Batavia Main Street, storm and sanitary sewer, and sidewalk project, costing 107464 dollars, is nearly finished with only straw removal from side strips and some intersections remaining. The work covers three blocks of concrete pavement, curb and gutter, and extensive sidewalks, with 60 men planned for a Felicity project pending WPA approval.

The Ohio Conference of the Methodist Church concluded at Lakeside Ohio with ministerial assignments for the new year. Two county changes were made with fourteen pastors returning to former charges. Registration Proceedings Set for Aliens in Clermont County

Postmaster Claude Coyle reports steady progress as the August 27 act makes alien registration compulsory. About 50 aliens, mainly Jugoslavian, Austrian, Hungarian, and Slovakian, have registered at Batavia Post Office, with an expected total of 300 by year end. All aliens over 14 who have not finaled must register. Marriage no longer changes citizenship since 1922 act. Registration takes about 35 minutes per person, with hours 9:00–10:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. in Batavia. locals urged to use nearer offices if possible.

Juvenile Held in Cincinnati Theft Case

Clifford Haas aged 17 of 649 West McMillan Street Cincinnati was taken into custody after police followed a theft report of a 1986 Plymouth from Dr Harold W Seff Bethel. The raid also noted Bethel entries at two other businesses including Farm Bureau office and Neva Smith's cafe.

Batavia opened Monday with about 600 pupils under Supt. Paul K. Moore. Fifteen staff members from last year resume duties. four new teachers join, including Henrietta White and Lillian Dill.
