Governor Urges Airport at Clermont County

Gov James A Rhodes plans a meeting in Columbus with Clermont County Commissioners to push a county airport. The session aims to outline funding from a 290 million bond issue for airport development and encourage other counties to build runways to attract industry and jobs. Arraignment Set For 14 Indicted

Fourteen individuals were indicted by Clermont County Grand Jury and will face arraignment at 10 a m in Common Pleas Court before Judge M Dale Osborne. The list includes David Horstmeyer charged with second degree manslaughter and several others facing burglary robbery theft and assault counts. Some charges were ignored or dropped for specific defendants as the case progresses.

Newtown Man Retires After 29 Years with CGE

Robert King of 4715 Blue Jacket Lane Newtown retires after 29 years with Cincinnati Gas Electric Company as a senior maintenance man in the Electric Operating Department. He joined the company earlier and completed long service in the utilities field.

Beckford inspection on caisson for new CG&E unit

Underwater survey completed this week on the first of 17 caissons for the boiler room foundation at the Walter C. Beckford Station. The new sixth electric generating unit will have 450000 kilowatts capacity and cost about 45000000 dollars, largest in Southwestern Ohio, a joint project of The Columbus & Southern Ohio Electric Company The Dayton Power Light Company and CG&E.

Plan Awaited for County Food Stamp Rollout

Wayne Oney the Welfare Director said he awaited word after President Johnson announced the federal food stamp program would be extended to Clermont County. The plan boosts purchasing power for families near aid eligibility, with eligibility based on income and government tables.

CAC Director LVW Speaker Presents Community Action Plan

The League of Women Voters will host Jack Blumen thal on Sept 16 at 8 p.m. in the Cincinnati Gas and Electric auditorium to explain CAC programs. Building Trades Council Calls Wage Check on County Jobs

Cincinnati Building Trades Council urged Clermont County Commissioners to verify prevailing wage on county contracts. The group proposed affidavits from contractors and unions bid access, with a note that only unionized bidders might be allowed on public works. Commissioners will decide after consulting the prosecuting attorney. The panel also approved a natural gas main installation by Cincinnati Gas and Electric Co. on Amelia Olive Branch Road to serve Amelia per county specs.

Ross Begins Second Term as County Treasurer

Byron Ross of Clermont County was sworn in for a second elective term as county treasurer after being re elected in November. His term starts the first Monday of September following the election. Ross was appointed in 1959 to fill the unexpired term of John P Friend and took the oath in Judge Orville Halbischs chambers.

West Clermont restores bus service and funds plan

The West Clermont School District resumed normal high school bus service after a board meeting. Officials cite $68 000 in new state funds and savings earlier this year as relief, allowing bus service restoration and a 3.5 mill operating levy limit pending next year’s review.
