The body of Flight Officer Charles A. Smith killed May 17 1945 on Leyte Island was returned last week and services were held by the Veterans of Foreign Wars at Craver Funeral Home. Mass was sung at St Andrew Church Saturday morning. F O Smith was the son of Mr and Mrs Charles E Smith formerly of Milford now in Mt Washington. An aunt Mrs Joe Spahr Sr lives in Milford.

Batavia Amends Law to Allow Fall Leaf Burning
Batavia Village Council approved a fall season amendment to permit burning of leaves in gutters or on private property from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. in September and October without a permit, while keeping restrictions requiring permits for other burns and supervised use of approved metal receptacles.
