F C Hartsock Milford County Chairman announces county wide effort by more than 200 volunteer salesmen for the third and largest War Loan Campaign. Quota set at 1 460 000 with emphasis on personal selling as banks are barred from Treasury purchases.
Frank M. Kain former Batavia postmaster and grocer died at his home in the County Seat. A Republican he served as Batavia postmaster for eight years starting in 1911 and spent most of his life in Clermont County. Funeral services were held from Moore Funeral Home with burial at Union Cemetery.
County Treasurer John Friend warned taxpayers that the current real estate tax period ends Friday September 10. After that date penalties will be charged on all delinquent accounts. Collections to date have been about normal.
Thomas A. Gallagher, Collector of Internal Revenue, warns federal taxpayers to file a Declaration of Estimated Income and pay any due amount by September 15. U S Representative Edward O McCowen told Portsmouth Industrial Union council delegates at 606 John St that he will not be a rubber stamp for labor leaders or any group. The meeting drew CIO unions and several AFL locals as George Martin of United Shoe Workers questioned policy. McCowen said he would answer issues in his own way and warned Mr Martin his statements were untrue.
J W Evans chairman of the Clermont Rationing Board warns that tire shortages will worsen for three to four months with fewer tires available and delays for replacements.
