Clermont County launches the Third War Loan Campaign with a $1,460,000 goal to be raised by 35,000 people. The county surpassed prior targets in April and December 1942, but this drive relies on individual purchases as banks cannot buy, challenging residents to buy extra bonds to push the county over the top.
Pearl L. Danby of Branch Hill is among the hundreds of young people who have completed admission requirements for Ohio State University's new freshman class arriving September 22 for Freshman Week. Danby plans a career in education.
Word reached Mr and Mrs G H McAfee of Batavia that their son Staff Sergeant Layton H McAfee stationed at a camp in Little Rock Arkansas married August 3 to Opal Turnage of Pine Bluff Arkansas The bride daughter of Mrs A T Turnage of Pine Bluff is a Portland High School graduate and Draughon s Business College alum now an accountant at Hotel Marion Little Rock The groom a Batavia High School graduate and former star basketball player worked at American Rolling Mill Company Middletown before entering the Army
Weather permitting a life saving demonstration will be given at Harold D. Nichols pool on Sunday afternoon September 5 at 3 00 pm. The Batavia Girl Scouts and others who took Red Cross swimming courses will also demonstrate. Dr A B Ream said persons have conducted teachers swimming and life saving this summer. Public invited to watch.
The Owensville School will resume classes at 8:45 A M on Tuesday September 7 for the 1943 1944 year with an all day session The cafeteria will operate on the first day and children are urged to attend regularly After registration high school students may be excused for farm work Regular attendance is stressed and buses will deliver students by 8 45 under Eastern War Time
Dealers and distributors of rationed heating and cooking stoves must register with Local War Price and Rationing Boards on September 1 to 3 under the new Store Rationing Order. Registration Form R-902 asks for 1941 or 1942 sales and stock figures. Eligible applicants include those needing stoves to heat living or working space, cook, or replace worn-out units.

Marathon Grange announces a Friday evening weiner roast at Blue Sky Park during the regular lecture hour. Members will bring weiners and the lecturer plans games for entertainment.
Clermont County officials warn tire shortages persist and demand accurate inspections. J W Evans, chairman of the County Rationing Board, calls for qualified inspectors to ensure true findings as Grade I tires are halved and September Grade II quotas cut by about 25 percent. Grade III tires gain importance amid sparse supply and public distrust.

The Batavia Garden Club will hold its annual Flower Show on Thursday September 16 from 3 to 9 PM at the Batavia Armory. A Victory Garden display invites all Victory Gardeners, ribbons only as prizes, no refreshments. A non judged display/arrangement section also offered.
Milford bond salesmen will meet at 8 o clock tonight in the Milford School auditorium to organize the Third War Loan Campaign. The Milford area includes parts of Miami Union Goshen and Wayne Townships with John C Craver as campaign chairman. Civilian defense workers in Milford Amviille Mulberry are among about 50 bondadiers who will canvass every home in the section. No quota is set yet but subscriptions sought are higher than in April when the area exceeded its goal.
The Amelia P T A will hold its first meeting in the Amelia School Auditorium on Tuesday evening September 14 at eight o'clock. All subsequent meetings are scheduled for the first Tuesday of each month at the same time and place.
