Cattle TB Testing Program Held Up

County commissioners asked agricultural agent W. W. Hamilton to meet with cattlemen to craft a plan to finish the TB testing program. They noted $800 has been spent and cannot provide the $10,000 required to complete tests, a move aimed at avoiding a cattle quarantine that would block shipment of cattle or milk. Hamilton was instructed to report back after talks with cattle raisers.

Zoning Office Open Two Days in September

The Union township zoning office will operate for two days in the last two weeks of September while Zoning Inspector Fred Romohr is on vacation. Frank Cann, zoning inspector for Pierce Township, fills in from 9 to 11 a.m. on Wednesdays at the Union township hall or at his home 3442 Behymer Rd.

Tax receipts for prepaid permits in Clermont County sum to 9015.60 for the week ending August 19, per State Treasurer Joseph T. Ferguson. Last year’s week totaled 1334.85. year-to-date cumulative 72915.91 versus 69709.78. Robbers smashed a door at Bill's Coin Shop on Route 50 near Montereybetween 10 and 11 p.m. August 28 and stole about 1200 in coins. The Bainhams report the loss of their full Indian head penny collection while a 50 cent piece set was not taken suggesting mixed expertise by the thieves.

In Williamsburg Hoy Leslie Haddix 32 Middletown was electrocuted Friday afternoon while working on electric lines near I 183. His brothers Lefford and Homer Haddix witnessed the accident. Amos Fugate and Harry Comer helped remove the victim from the pole. He died en route to Lady of Mercy Hospital.

Two Youths Held For Burglary In New Richmond

Two youths face burglary charges in Berry's Pharmacy and Osborn's Grocery in New Richmond. Charles Jodrey aged 18 was arrested by Police Chief Hermon Reid and held to the grand jury. the other youth is in Juvenile Court. Berry report listed $165, a transistor radio, cigarets and lighters missing. Hendry reported 20 cartons of cigarets and $30 stolen from Osborn's.
