Clermont County Schools Set for 700-Plus Enrollment Rise

Cler mont County schools expect about 14 700 pupils when classes start Tuesday September 5 up 700 from last year. Teaching staff will grow from 528 to 960 as districts run full day schedules except West Cler mont which will have a narrower program due to limited rooms.

Election Board Rules Against Kemp Appeal

Clermont County officials ruled against John Kemp in his ballot petition appeal. Kemp failed to gather four of the required 36 signatures to qualify for the Milford school board race, despite claiming a board member said 30 would suffice. The board’s decision stands as the petition lacked sufficient valid signatures before the filing deadline.

Clermont County Grid League Expands to Six Teams

The Clermont County High School Grid League adds Little Miami of Morrow in Warren County, forming a six team league. All will play in one class this year with a single trophy. Opening nonleague games set for Sept 8 include Amelia at Madeira, Bethel at Hillsboro, Goshen at New Miami, and Loveland at Williamsburg. Felicity hosts Lloyd, Ky. in a Sept 9 matinee.

Local 4-Hers Shine at Ohio State Fair

Eighteen Clermont County 4-H members competed at the Ohio State Fair on Friday August 25 with teams earning notable placements. Dairy judging placed thirteenth of 29. general livestock fourteenth of 32. beel riding fifth of 34, with Tom Cannava fourth high individual. Richard Bissantz earned blue ribbon in English Equitation. A square dance team also performed with caller Lee Lindower.

Mrs Smith Named National Vice Chair of DAR Lineage Group

Mrs John Wesley Smith of Beech Forest Chapter DAR becomes national vice chair of the Lineage Research Committee covering Indiana Kentucky Michigan Ohio and West Virginia. The committee aids genealogical efforts to prove Revolutionary service. Williamsburg hosts a luncheon and meeting Sept 21 at the Presbyterian Church with state officers and Southwest District members. Waldschmidt House at Camp Dennison received Civil War era relics and gifts this year. Tusculum Monday Club meets Sept 4 at 1:30 pm in Waldschmidt museum assembly room with Mrs Ralph Arnold presiding. The Waldschmidt will be open Sundays 1 to 5 pm through Nov 1 for public visits. special openings can be arranged with trustees or Mrs Leland Douglas.

Awards Given by Army Engineers Lab for Employee Suggestions

Robert W. Hohl of Milford and Allison C. Greenawalt of Mt. Carmel received cash awards and certificates at the Army Engineers Ohio River Division laboratories in Mariemont for suggestions to improve equipment. Greenawalt previously earned a substained superior performance award on June 16. The awards are part of the Corps of Engineers incentive program. Aaron Liming of Pt Isabel suffered severe bites from a stray cat caught in a poultry house. The county jury commission will meet at 1 PM September 13 at the courthouse to draw a grand and petit jury for the October term of Common Pleas Court. Milford 4-H Club members earned 15 blue ribbons at the Clermont County Fair.

Goshen Ohio senior Frank Fender of Ohio State University is named as a nominee for a foreign assignment by the International Farm Youth Exchange Program announced by W B Wood director of the Ohio Agricultural Extension Service. Final selections and assignments will come in January from the National 4 H Club Foundation in Washington DC.

Milford Merchants Reach National Amateur Baseball Congress

Milford, undefeated in the Tri-State League, earned the right to represent Cincinnati at the National Amateur Baseball Congress in Dayton Ohio. They defeated the Hamilton County Cards 8 to 1 at Riverside Park, initiating the Hertzler Series with a September 139 playoff to determine the trophy winner against the Indian Hill Reading winner.
