The 72nd annual Clermont County Teachers Institute convened in New Richmond last week with President Crabtree presiding. Supt. Dean welcomed delegates. J. J. Phillips and Mr. Ulery spoke on teaching, organization, and questioning in schools. A long list of teachers attended, and officers for next year were elected, with R. G. Little as president and Hazel Calvert as secretary among others.

The M B E Conference of Ohio will meet in Delaware from September 6 to 18. Bishop L B Wilson of New York Ohio Bishop J F Beery of Philadelphia and Bishop W F McDowell of Washington preside over 1275 ministers and 1275 laymen. Sweeney Hearing on Murder Charge in Goshen
Fred Sweeney of Goshen faced a preliminary hearing in the Probate Court room on Friday for allegedly murdering his wife with strychnine in a dose of salts on August 28. Fourteen witnesses testified, including his 12 year old daughter Retha who described the sequence from sunrise to the wife’s death. Coroner A C Christopher found strychnine in the wife’s stomach, and Mayor J L Larkin dismissed the case though the prosecutor may pursue a future grand jury.

Opening Postponed as Infantile Paralysis Fears Rise
Opening of many rural schools in Columbus and surrounding areas has been postponed due to infantile paralysis reports. Dr. J E Monger, health director, says risk to young children lingers until cold weather arrives, possibly weeks away. Some rural schools may stay closed until weather cools. others may reopen in a week or two based on county and district health reports.

Not Guilty Plea in Nofi-Support Case Against Harvey Teeters

Musical Recital Club Meeting in Amelia
The Musical Recital Club of Amelia met at Betty Thiesz's home on August 24 at 2 PM. Power Plant Sold in Batavia to Union Gas & Electric
Batavia's power plant changed hands September 1 after long taxpayer ownership. The Union Gas & Electric Co. of Cincinnati will operate it at a reduced rate, with Cincinnati Gas & Electric supplying equipment and maintenance. The town saves by the transition while water treatment uses alum and chlorine under state health orders.
