Student Milton Propper reports a Mu Beta Sigma initiation death of Stuart Jordan. A physician says poisoning caused death as Philadelphia detective Tommy Rankin leads the investigation.
Detective Rankin questions Mu Beta Sigma president Ted Stanton about the February pledge ceremony in which Jordan collapsed after a mystery toast. The scene reveals robes, an altar, a pin exchange, a possible poison, and thumbtack marks in Jordan’s shoes as officers preserve evidence and investigate family ties, finances, and the rogue details surrounding the victim.
The president escorted Rankin and Warwick the physician and Mr Fletcher to the bedroom where the body lay partially covered by a white cloth. Rankin approached the corpse as authorities prepared to examine the scene and identify the deceased.
