Obituary of Mrs Nancy Smith of St Augustine

Former Batavian Nancy Smith nee Moore died August 17 in St Augustine Florida after injuries from a door falling at a railroad station where she worked. Born in Batavia she moved to Florida twenty years ago after marriage. Funeral August 19 at 4 p.m. in St Augustine. Survived by husband William Smith daughter Miss Lida Smith sister Mrs Fay Dorsey and sister of the late Dr Stirling Moore of Batavia.

Batavia Township Tennis Tourney Entries Sought

Batavia Township invites entries for a tennis tournament to crown outstanding players. Contacts are Russell Speidel Maurice Burkholder or Oliver Malott. State Highway Dept to Move Headquarters near Batavia

The State Highway Department has bought land west of Batavia near the Cappell farm to establish headquarters. A large building from Hamlet is being moved there to house offices and wood material with a temporary office. A second large work room from Milfford will be added beside the existing one. A brick building will later be erected to house all county road offices and machinery, making Batavia the county road work distributing point.

Narrow Escape Near New Richmond In York

Four York residents escaped serious harm when their car overturned near New Richmond and burned while returning from the World’s fair. Judge and Mrs. Weiss, Harry Johnson and his wife were in the car. Frank Herbert rescued Mrs. Weiss from the burning vehicle.

Out On Bail For Liquor Possession Case In Hamilton County

Asa Bloomfield and Gee Burch of Hamilton county were jailed after a Tuesday arrest by Sheriff Auxier and deputies. A shot was fired into their Ford during the incident. They pleaded not guilty before Judge Charles White, bail set at 1000 and 500 dollars, and a September 7 trial date was scheduled. The case follows a prior seizure of eighteen gallons of liquor and auto confinement.

County Commissioners List Bills and Road Work August 21

County commissioners approve numerous bills for labor supplies and services including Barret Bros Sam Behymer and J as Bennett. Miller Family Reunion Settles on Annual Gathering

The Miller reunion was held Sunday on the lawn of Chas. Bauer between Owensville and Williams burg with 75 attendees. Elected officers include President Walter Bauer, Vice President Lee Miller, Secretary Ezra Seyler, and Treasurer. The event will be repeated at the same site next year.

The American Red Cross held its annual meeting in Batavia last Friday night with about 80 workers and members in attendance. Speakers included Red Cross Field Representative for Southern Ohio Mrs. Fred Spaulding and State Relief Commission district director Mr. Boyd Fisher, outlining plans for aiding the needy this coming year.

Injunction Filed Over Loveland Light Referendum Vote

Prosecutor Frank A. Roberts filed an injunction in the Court of Common Pleas of Clermont County to halt a vote on the Loveland Light referendum. The suit challenges alleged illegal procedure after the referendum was not submitted to the council as required. The case will be heard before any vote proceeds.

Fire scare as cellar tank bursts in Nash residence

The Batavia siren sounded Saturday night around 6:80 reporting a fire at Dr. A C Nash’s home. A glass tank on a coal oil heater in the cellar burst, the fire company used a chemical extinguisher, and flames were quickly put out with little loss.

Fourteenth Hensel Reunion Held at Hamon Park Lebanon Ohio

The Hensel reunion gathered at Hamon Park Lebanon with over 50 members enjoying a noon basket dinner. The project removes obstruction on Bata via Williamsburg Hill to widen a heavily traveled county road. Dirt from the site is used to fill ground west of town, serving dual purpose and improving access.

Mrs. Sarah Bragdon widow of B F Bragdon died at her brother E E Hunt home in Lujunga California on Monday August 21 at age ninety years six months. She had lived near Batavia before moving to California in 1922.

Stevens Resigns Mt. Orab Post for Carlisle Superintendency

A. E. Stevens resigns after two years as Mt. Orab school superintendent and accepts a two year contract to head Carlisle schools in Warren County. William Smith, the Carlisle superintendent, will replace Stevens at Mt. Orab and also signs a two year contract. both plan to move soon.
