New Church Holds First Services with 62 Attendees

The Amelia Church of Christ held its inaugural services in the school auditorium drawing 62 attending Bible school and evening worship. Rev. James Johnson of the New Richmond Church of Christ spoke at both services. Next Sunday Rev. John Kinner of Mulberry will be guest speaker.

Rites Held For Child and Food Poisoning Victim

Al Morgan the keyboard virtuoso of the flying hands and radio TV star will perform free at the Mall at Coney Island on September 6 and 7 with Moonlight Gardens backing by George Smith's Orchestra. A Clermont County native, Morgan lived in Laurel five years and played piano at the Methodist Church. He studied voice at Cincinnati College of Music and rose to fame with Jealous Heart before becoming a top radio TV performer. Services were held for eight year old William Hopkins of Milford near Blanchester, who died after his family fell ill from bologna sausage. two sisters Carol and June were reported improving at Children’s Hospital and their mother received emergency treatment.

State official to conduct survey of Clermont County schools

W W t. D Chris Rosenhoffer Batavia attorney and secretary treasurer of the Citizens Committee for Reorganization of Clermont County Schools has received a letter from W. D. Darling state supervisor of school wing indicating he will assist in conducting a survey of local educational problems during October The Citizens Committee formed at Batavia in August seeks help from the State Department of Education to survey the county 98 school districts for reorganization Darling proposes to be Clermont school district every usable building elementary capacity high school capacity and present enrollments He will also study the county

Girl Hitchhikers Are Apprehended Near Here

Clermont County juvenile officer Fred F. Holt and local police chief Charles Spaulding arrested two teenage girls found hitchhiking near here last week on their way to Alabama. One girl, 16, hailed from Louisville Kentucky and the other, 17, from Butler Pennsylvania and on probation for auto theft. They will be returned to their homes as records indicate.

Four Clermont County residents received Miami University degrees Friday afternoon. Ruth T. Cleaver of Miamiville earned a bachelor of arts in education, William Forney of Batavia Route 3 earned a bachelor of arts, Jean Hogue of Amelia Route 2 earned a BS in education, and Richard G. Truske of Williamsburg Route 1 earned a BS in (degree incomplete in source).

Waste Paper Blaze Fought by Milford Firemen

Milford Fire Department battled a stubborn blaze at the home of Andrew Williamson about 8:50 PM Friday east of Milford. The fire, likely started by waste paper in a heating stove, confined to the second story of a frame house owned by Ralph E. Hodges. Firemen remained two hours, fighting outbreaks in floors and partitions. Damage estimate unavailable.

Officials Probe Death of Farmier Hawkins Dean

Officials continued a probe into the arsenic death of Hawkins Dean the Owensville farmer aged 68 who died August 22. Sheriff Clyde B Dericks and Prosecutor Ray Bradford questioned suspects after lie detector tests given to Dean's widow Davie Meyers Dean her son Carl Meyers and son in law Clyde Bryant of Hamilton.
