Thurman Dusty Miller, Wilmington lecturer and humorist, to deliver the principal address at a Republican rally in Milford school gymnasium. A prominent woman speaker will address the women, Batavia quartet and Milford school band perform, and Mack Agin leads the arrangements for Clermont County GOP. The event begins at 8:00 PM.
Clermont County Commissioners consider a WPA project to construct a one story service building behind the sheriff's residence. The structure would store county equipment and materials, with an estimated cost of 2 767 dollars and existing appropriations on hand.
County Auditor Blythe Jones Judge Simon Ross and H B Bass Fenton are on a fishing outing in Northern Minnesota and expect to return after Labor Day.
The James Almira Hulick reunion met at Mrs. Ruth Hulick’s home in Williamsburg on Sunday August 28 with 25 members present. A basket dinner was shared at noon and all enjoyed the day. The next gathering is planned at the Hulick homestead now owned by Mr. and Mrs. John F Hartman near Batavia.
State Examiner Frank Wells and Hugh Smith commended Smith for proper administration of his office. The record shows neat files and accurate handling of funds with balances of 91,800 for assistants in 1985, 185 in 1983, 1034 in 1984, and secret service fund balances of 816 in 1988 and 26 in 1984. Figures for 1986 were not listed.
The Batavia M E church celebrated its second annual Home Coming last Sunday with Dr. Rollin H. Walker of Ohio Wesleyan delivering the morning address. A noon dinner on the church lawn drew 186 attendees, 42 visitors, followed by a social hour and music from the organ and choir. Notable attendees included Mrs. H. G. Horn of Williamsburg, Mrs. Stella O. Whitaker, Miss Marie Lindsey of Buffalo, and many from Norwood, Milford, Hamilton, Dayton, and Newtown.
The Methodist Episcopal church at Neville on the Ohio river was crushed by a whirl wind last Thursday during the storm, while Otis Camery led repairs on the building. Ennis Jones of Edenton saw his 6 room house struck by lightning and set ablaze a second time, with about 1000 dollars in damage. Cliff Copover’s home nearby was partly destroyed by fire from a lightning strike. Frank Letterly reported the loss of three hogs and two sheep in the storm.
The Belfast Church announces its annual home coming on September 20. An all day event begins with Sunday school at 9 30 a m followed by morning worship. A basket dinner will be served cafeteria style. Dr C E Turley district superintendent will deliver the homecoming message and former pastors will give brief talks with special musical entertainment.
John Bates a 17 year old resident of Locust Corner was arrested in Amelia by Sheriff G G Auxier on auto theft charges involving Louis Waggal Locust Corner school principal. Bates wrecked the car at Withiamsville striking mailboxes and a tree then sought aid at Dr Sidney Scarse's home before arrest. He is at St Marys hospital Cincinnati with severe injuries.
Mandeville Scott, 47, of Newport, was arrested in Bethel after a suspected theft at the Jack Gagnon Cafe on Route 125 Mt Holly. Police say about $500 in loot has been recovered and Scott was charged with receiving stolen property.
Miss Jeannette Belle Nichols daughter of Mr and Mrs Allen B Nichols of Batavia and Dwight Wesley Martin son of Rev and Mrs Arlea Martin of Portsmouth will wed at Batavia M E church built Sept 7 at 8 30 p m Rev Martin father of groom will officiate The couple both attorneys with local firms a reception will follow at the Nichols home and the date also marks the Nichols family anniversary.
Clermont County forms a reorganized Health Department with Dr. J A Carter as Commissioner. Headquarters are in the Gregg Building Batavia. Dr. Carter moved his family from New Paris to Batavia and will occupy the Tilton property on Sixth Street.
A relief budget of 4500 for September was approved by the County Commissioners after a Relief Director report. The document lists new cases, reopened cases, rejected cases, and cases added to relief, with August spending totaling 4181.91 for 246 direct relief families and 31 non family relief cases.
Harry Cover will sail September 6 for a ten day trip to Bermuda. He won the trip by excellence in a sales campaign for the Electrolux Sweeper Company. Charles W. Wa and Mrs Thel aw married Monday afternoon by Warren Liston, Batavia Township Justice of the Peace.
Ohio's new Driver's License Law takes effect October 1 1936 requiring all drivers to hold a license. It outlines issuance requirements examinations costs expiration and penalties for fake or revoked licenses with authoritative notes from Frank West Registrar of Motor Vehicles.
Former Mt Carmel pupils and teachers meet at the Mt Carmel school house on Monday for a reunion. Albert Tschira chairs the volunteer committee with help from Mrs. Norman Meade and Mrs. F E Nichols. The district organized in 1886 and the building cost about 7000. The last high school class graduated in 1912.
Cincinnati fans will see five spirited games this weekend at Crosley Field with the Reds facing the Gas House Gang Cardinals in a Saturday single and Sunday double header. On Labor Day the Reds square off with the Chicago Cubs in the season finale twin bill.
More than 150 people attended the Mt. Holly School homecoming last Sunday afternoon. Officers reelected were Wm. Turton president Fred Myrick vice president and Mrs. Aileen Lytle Siegle secretary. Rev John Malick of Cincinnati gave the principal address and spoke on Clermont County history. Others who spoke included C J Swing Fred Myrick and Rev Zimmerman. A fine musical program featured Victor Hill on trumpet the Swope Brothers on string instruments and the Savage youth with various numbers.
Commissioners approved a force account repair of the road from Route 52 into Chile. The surveyor is authorized to proceed with an estimated cost of 123.76 dollars.
Eddie Duchin and orchestra headline Moonlite Gardens at Coney Island with special attractions on Labor Day weekend. Carnival of Fireworks at night marks the climax, plus free attractions include the Elephant Circus Band concerts and India A Night in the Orient nightly.
Thousands of Clermont County pupils return to classes as most schools open on Tuesday with Batavia delaying to September 14. Changes include E. H. Pattison's retirement and Frank B. Hoggatt becoming county superintendent, with new high school heads at Milford and Goshen.
Goshen township schools open on Tuesday September 8 for the new term. All high school pupils must register September 7 at 9 am. Your bus will call for you. T. G. Hause, Supt.
The Clem mont County Brotherhood held its monthly meeting in the Grant Memorial Building Bethel with over 100 attendees. Judge Otis Hess of the Cincinnati Municipal Court gave a notable address while the Bethel M B Church Male Chorus under Harvey Hutson Jack Tretam and Junior South performed a duet to praise. B Kincaid acted as vice chairman in L L Harding’s absence due to illness.
